aznfx
what you can do is make a blank *.txt file and delete that...so your recycle bin will show that its full...then empty it. it'll clear the file that you can't get rid of also. if that fails, go into DOS and blast the damn thing :)

Khujo
you have to remember dos isn't an option when you use ntfs. but safemode with command prompt is a basic xp boot with just command prompt, i could easily remove any file i needed too with it, i did have to attrib thumbs.db in a directory to remove it, it had hidden and system properties. Big_Mark
I didn't read all the posts but if all else failes do it through dos.
mtgriffith
Doesn't safe mode with command prompt just open Windows in safe mode then open a command window? It's not like Windows 9x where you could get a dos prompt before you got WIndows.
Khujo
yes it loads windows then a dos prompt, but no other processes that will cause a program to be accessing the file, therefore its quite easy to erase them from safe mode w/ cmd prompt. Qwakui
I personally prefer the Recovery Console for this task. Pop in Windows CD and type "D:i386winnt32.exe /cmdcons" where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive. It is then installed as an operating system in boot.ini. It allows you to delete/replace anything and everything - many things that you can't even in safe mode. (IE shell32.dll)
thingsforjason
so am i wrong in assuming that everyone that had those "undeletable" files got them deleted finally? or are people just posting stuff about recovery console and dos and trojan remover just because? :D
mtgriffith
so am i wrong in assuming that everyone that had those "undeletable" files got them deleted finally? No, none of us ever got rid of them. We were hoping you knew how. ;););) Seriously, the recovery console idea sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the tip! PrinceAli0
I know what all your problems are, I've been having it from the first beta builds of XP. There is nothing u can do about it execpt disable the preview pane that reads information from the file, then deleting it will be an option. The second options is to boot into safe mode by hitting F8 before XP starts and booting to Safe Mode with command prompt and do it the old DOS way :) Good Luck Prince Ali0
