Need advice

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've got the loan of my mates 400D for a wee bit. He's got a Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens on the thing, but I've not been overly impressed with some of the pictures I've taken so far. What would be the best scenario to use this lens in. I'm in the mood to take some pictures of family and friends at the moment, both posing and candids.

Cheers!

For portraits I'd suggest extending the zoom to 135mm and using a wide aperture to blur the background (make sure the background is not that close to the subject).

What types of photos are you specifically looking for?

I'd like to take a few pictures at home, against a nice backdrop of the wallpaper we have that's quite nice. I'd also like to be able to get some nice candid/action shots of my family and friends at the beach or something like that.

Also, I'm going to Disney on Ice at the weekend, so want to be able to get decent shots there too. That will be the real test for me.
