What did you think of MGS4?

Allot of people brushed this game off compared to previous iterations, Snake Eater being the most popular for many I couldn't help but notice that 4 was "ok" for most.

Nothing can compete with the original Metal Gear Solid. That being said, I liked MGS4, but I can see where many who aren't die hard MGS fans wouldn't really like it. It answers a lot of questions that came up in MGS2, while keeping the classic MGS mystique. I liked it, but it wasn't the greatest of them all, I would put MGS 2 and 4 on the same level under MGS and MGS 3, but by no means bad games. It is just out of the 4, the original and Snake Eater were better. MGS > MGS3 > MGS4 = MGS2

I felt it was a bit of a mixed bag. Story wise it was excellent as I'm a huge Metal Gear Solid fan, love the series. Gameplay wise it felt a bit off with the 'modernization' of the gunplay which made it feel way too much like a TPS rather than a sneaking game.

Now, it was fun to shoot but the problem is, it completely killed the sneaking aspect for me - I just could not sneak around and be all ninja when it was about 300 times easier to just mow down the enemy, unlike some previous metal gears where the game punished you a lot more for going Rambo.

Not to mention some of the levels didn't have the MGS atmosphere I'm used to, so I couldn't get myself to complete it multiple times like I did with all the previews MGS games ( Except MGS3, hated it. ).

I was rather excited to be able to play a mgs game, as I've not owned consoles before the ps3/360. Heard amazing things about the first games and was ready to have my mind blown away by the gameplay.

It was not, not at all blown. Perhaps it was my lack of playing any other mgs game, but it was boring, confusing, unoriginal and felt more an quick time event than anything else.

If there ever is a mgs5, I will not bother.

One of a few games that as soon as I beat it, I restarted a new game literally right away. Could've done somewhat without the exposition after the final boss, tho, that took forever.

I thought it was ok. I loved the active camo, and I liked that you had the choice to go through stealth or run and gun (though Stealth was much more challenging and fun). The story was pretty bad though. I also liked MGO because it brought some of the elements of stealth online. It was a 7/10 game for me.

Same here, just wish it had trophies. :p

Haha yeah. I want to play it again but i'm still waiting for a trophy patch. I don't think they are going to patch it. :(

Yeah haha, there were rumours like 2 months after its release about trophy support, never came though xD.

After playing it and liking it so much, I bought a PS1 and a PS2 so I can replay the whole series. ^^

You do know the PS2 can play ps1 games don't you? heck, if you have an older ps3, you probably could play all of them...idiotic madness ⎝〤.〤⎠

As for MGS4, I've only played it once compare to multiple times the prior 3s. MGS1 is favorite classic, MGS2 is almost impossibly hard on extreme mode (done that), MGS3 is my too much forestry for me ;) but more fun to play than MGS2.

I loved it, but I'm a MGS fanboy.

I do however agree the series just needs a conclusion now, no more dragging it out and spin offs.
