John Veteran Posted July 25, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 25, 2003 windows 2000/xp pro have IIS built in, you can host a ftp with that. but it limits you to 10 connections.
hajj_3
use bulletproof ftp server 2.21, thats what i use, its great, select what dir's u want to share and create usernames and passwords for your users.
+BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted July 25, 2003 Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 25, 2003 I would agree with Hajj_3 ... BPFTP is probably one of the easiest to use and set up. Just install it, then set your users and passwords (each user can have axs to different folders than the others if necessary, you just assign the folders they can axs when you have set their account up)
DrunkenMaster
I use slimFTPd its under 30 KB and you can configure user/pass and directories. Super easy to setup. I had it running in < 1 minute. I struggled w/ IIS and Bulletproof. All config is in a TXT file.
whipper25
serv-u...but i haven't used any others..simply because i got serv-u up and running in no time...and has the same features listed above...so, fortunately for you, you've got a lot of choices...good luck! Samoa
Wow thanks guys. WS FTP SERVER had done much of what you have stated. Is it the hardest to use? Cause I would like to use the easiest one. Don't like to spend a lot of time reading up on it.
ToastGodSupreme
I have always used BFTP Server. Best FTP prog I've played with. I dunno, it's all very intuitive. Not hard to figure out what you need to do or where you need to go to find some settings.
OPaul
If your new to setting up an FTP server definitely go with BulletProof FTP Server. http://www.bpftpserver.com/
me101 Veteran Posted July 25, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 25, 2003 I'm using Serv-U FTP server, it's free if you use it for personal usage, and I find it to be excellent, very configurable.
+BudMan MVC Posted July 25, 2003 MVC Share Posted July 25, 2003 Cause I would like to use the easiest one. Don't like to spend a lot of time reading up on it. Yeah - because actually having some clue to how it works. Or even a basic understanding of how FTP works in general would be BAD. ARRRGGHHHH!!! Kenny McCormick
I use BulletProof FTP Server to and I think it?s the easiest one. I have tryed Serve-U and som other FTP Servers but I always end up with BPFTPServer.

one321
What about port forwarding and all of that... What all needs to be done to get it to work through my Linksys router?
+BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted July 25, 2003 Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 25, 2003 just choose your own port for the FTP ... Then set up your router accordingly.
liar2
I've been using Serv-u since it's the only one I could get working. I tried to use BPFTP but it never worked for me.
