John Veteran Posted July 25, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 25, 2003 make sure they're all using the same workgroup name and none of them have the same computer name.
Roger H. Veteran Posted July 25, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 25, 2003 yeah, all same workgroup then shut em all down and boot em back up... don't really have to but it eliminates other probs... right click my computer, properties, computer name, click change then change the work group to the samething for all of them then restart. John Veteran Posted July 25, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 25, 2003 MSHOME and WORKGROUP are two different workgroup names. they all have to be in the exact same workgroup.
+BudMan MVC Posted July 25, 2003 MVC Share Posted July 25, 2003 What wizard?? Why would you need to run a wizard?? Arrggh - have fun. And if all three of them have access to the internet - your network is working. You are having an issue with browsing to shares. Do you know the three names of the machines? If so - the one that is not showing up, you should be able to just do run \\computername and pull up the shares. Or from cmd prompt, net view \\computername. Make sure you do not have any Firewall type software blocking anything, this includes the ICF. And remember it one of your computers will become the browse master, and it will keep the listing of computers in your workgroup. This does not happen instantly - there will have to be an election between the machines, and once that is done - etc.. etc.. If you are having netbios name resolution issues, you can always either use lmhost files or setup a wins server.
+BudMan MVC Posted July 25, 2003 MVC Share Posted July 25, 2003 MSHOME and WORKGROUP are two different workgroup names. they all have to be in the exact same workgroup. No not really - you do not have to be a member of the same workgroup to access the shares of another computer. Yes this can make it easier, but is NOT a requirement. CubanPete
are you just clicking Network places or are you actually navigating through by clicking "workgroup Computers" then "microsoftwindows network" in the task pane, all network places does is scans the network for shares but i dont think it does it constantly therefore there will be a delay before all of them are displayed, possibly hours, the best way is to use what i mentioned above you should find all shares there unless the share has a "$" in the name, in which case they are hidden.
