Elektro
under windows xp, my dvd and cdr drives have suddenly stopped auto-running when i put in a cd, also, it doesn't reconize if a cd is in the drive or out till i reboot! for exa, i put in the windows xp drive while windows is running, and it simply doesnt do anything. i have to go into the drive manually, which is really annoying. then if i reboot i finally knows the cd is in, and if i take it out it thinks its still there. before this was fine, and all was well, until today. i dual boot with windows 98 and its ok there. please help anyone. Elektro
yah yah and it says this then: select a content type, then choose the action for windows to perform automatically when that type is used in device. then there is a drop down menu to pick things like mixed content, and music files, etc. then has radio buttons for selecting action always to use, or to just let windows ask everytime, and i have ask everytime. but see the werid thing is when i have a cd in from the start of windows, then take it out, its still up there like it is in, the icon, name of cd, etc, but when i try to go into the drive it says its not ready and retry/ cancel buttons. this is werid, and is the secound time this has happened. last time it didnt stop till i formatted and clean installed :(

Elektro
ok ill try to tell you some stuff that may help...... installed xp, then just took care of the sound blaster live drivers and software by installing those. next i removed creative disk detector, cause i hate it :) and i think it messed up my cd burning in the past, then i whent onto windows update and got the updates, installed powertoys, hacked uxtheme.dll, then, after switching to 98 a couple times, whent back to xp to help my mom set up her user name, lol.... then she put in the greetings cd and it was like DAMN. and it stopped autobooting and the drive non-resposive thing started :ermm: like i said if i goto boot in win98, it works fine..... im guessing it was the install and uninstall of disc detector? but its funny how it didn't start screwing things up till now? or perhaps it was just setting up my moms user name? werid stuff, but thats everything. Elektro
cat :D - how do u reset it in tweakUI? i dont have tweakXP at the moment.
Thecoz
Hmm i dont knwo what Creative disk detector is but that sounds to me like what would cause the problem. It most likely messed somehting up in the registy and never was fixed when you removed it. So im not sure what you should do from here on. Let me know if you tin that that guess could be right. Elektro
but see- i really dont think autoplay is the main issue.... its like windows turned dumb or something..... i have no disc in the drive right now, but it seems to think that the greetings cd is still in there! Elektro
it might just be the disc detector, but why did it take overnight until it started to screw up?
