spenser.d
What is this all with Uncharted 2? I've played it and enjoyed it thoroughly, but its not that impressive graphically.

At the time I thought it was very impressive. That was awhile ago though. Then again, I remember when I was impressed with Zaxxon graphically
HawkMan
mmm Zaxxon awesomeness, not sure if I played that on C64 or Amiga. I want to say C64, but in my memory it has a bit to much color for the C64
Lazure
Uncharted 2 is one of the few games out there to have such realistically done graphics, with nice amounts of detail... while retaining a very colorful atmosphere and not succumbing to your everyday REAL IS BROWN/DESATURATE EVERYTHING methodology found in most games today. I don't find grey and brown being 90% of a game to be very appealing or realistic, nor MAKE EVERYTHING AS DARK AS UTTERLY POSSIBLE. Someone mentioned that Red Dead Redemption looks better than Uncharted 2. I disagree, Red Dead Redemption to me looks very dull. Sure, the models and textures look well detailed, but everything is brown and grey, and once again.. desaturated. It just looks like most other games that people put out these days, just with a western theme slapped on it (I've seen a better variety of color in actual old WESTERNS on television, with the technicolor or whatever they had). Indeed, as soon as you add gloss to the models and some shiny water people are all over the place.

DrunknMunky Veteran Posted October 10, 2010 Veteran Share Posted October 10, 2010 I've been saying that since the first UC1, it's literally a game wrapped in clingfilm. It's not nice!

bob_c_b
The PS3 takes the cake when it comes to raw horsepower, but if Sony doesn't step up their game they're going to lose miserably in terms of unit sales just because of all of the features M$ is packing into the 360. It seems like every other day there's an announcement of new content/software for the 360 (Netflix, Facebook, Last.fm). I mean heck the only "feature" the PS3 has a leg up on is an actual web browser, and I don't think they've bothered updating it since the console was released. Personally, I prefer my PS3, (however I own both) but the 360 is cleaning house as far as market share goes. I was going to disregard your post, but then I saw you replaced the S in MS with a dollar sign and I was like "woah, this dude is right on the money, he is the king of his mom's basement". Just teasing, sort of, but the rest of your points are really spot on. bob_c_b
Well, what title on the 360 looks better than Uncharted 2 then? There are some areas of UC2 that look amazing, well beyond anything else out there, and a few that are so-so and quite a bit that is equal to or bested in many other games. Those few areas are shining exmples of what the PS3 and the right engineer can do with it, but that one example doens't put the PS3 aheaad of the 360 in any meaningful way. And then I think you have to really consider that ND pulled off someting basically no one else on the PS3 has and that they have to lend a couple guys to other first party Sony titles to get the most from the box (see Killzone team for examples). If those couple graphics engine ninjas ever quit Naughty Dog, Sony has a serious issue.

Vortex566
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is one of the best looking games I've seen this generation. Shame it runs like balls on the 360 /troll However, Uncharted 2 is one of the best looking games this generation and I would LOVE to see the 360 produce something which is on par with it. Lazure
Wanna run that by me again. Yeah , look at all that brown, and grey. Yep, it outclasses in detail and textures alone.. but not in style. UC2 actually has, oh I dunno, COLORS in it? Trees are GREEN, like in reality. Look at the trees in that GoW screenshot? They're brown, just like the ROCKS and just like the BRIDGE and just like the MONSTERS and just like the ARMOR YOUR GUYS ARE WEARING... the blue eyes on the one guy and the flames are the only prominent NON-brown/grey things in the entire image. Also, the train scene is your best pick from UC2 to make comparisons with?

Neo003
So let me get this straight, you think UC2 is superior because of the colors. I'm sorry if you're talking about in real life I don't think I would be watching scenery if someone is shooting at me, that's just me :shifty: . And fyi GoW 2 is almost a year old (11 months) then UC2.

Games aren't just aboot graphics people. Then I vote this cause it's got style!: Honestly, we need to clarify whether it is the graphics or the style of the game we enjoy. Graphically I can point out several inadequacies of the above Uncharted screenshot compared to the Gears one. Graphics aren't necessarily about colors but about texture resolution, particle effects and level of detail in the mapping and geometry. On top of that you can include enemies/AI on screen (optmizing the graphics engine to leave enough space for a high number of AI is also a part of the graphics).
