Medal of Honor Requires PSJailbreak-Killing PS3 Firmware 3.42

It was inevitable: according to user "lineX7″ over at the PSX-Scene forums, the PS3 version of Medal of Honor requires firmware 3.42 to play. This, of course, is the same firmware that renders all forms of the PSJailbreak hack inoperable.

Given how quick the 3.42 update itself was released to prevent those with jailbroken units from accessing PSN resources, Sony's swift response comes as little surprise.

Said user also confirms that simple workarounds, such as modifying the game's SFO file to reference an earlier firmware, simply result in the PS3 throwing a "80010019″ error. Unless a custom firmware a la the PSP's M33 or equivalent materializes, it seems those on 3.41 holding out for homebrew are stuck at a crossroad at this point.

Unlike the F1 post I made, this isn't BS.

Not surprising really, wonder what will be the first 3.50 game.

There's already a fix. Just delete the update folder.

If your talking about the games update folder that wouldn't make much sense seeing as I would assume it's on the games disk and not a downloaded update.

Any update on the removal of the Update folder? Was it true or false?

False, unlucky Andy :p

I know! Wtf was I thinking :(

It's ok *pat pat*. We all buy crappy games from time to time, but we always have the chance to return them IF we didn't open them. :)

Since we have the ability to change the game files and edit the PS3 registry, I'm almost positive that they'll be able to patch an sfo file or other files to change it so the game will run on lower firmware or there will be something that tricks the games into thinking you have the newest firmware.

And YES, I read this part, "Said user also confirms that simple workarounds, such as modifying the game's SFO file to reference an earlier firmware, simply result in the PS3 throwing a "80010019″ error. Unless a custom firmware a la the PSP's M33 or equivalent materializes, it seems those on 3.41 holding out for homebrew are stuck at a crossroad at this point"

But that's it those are simple fixes, there are many things that haven't been explored or tested yet...

So it's a given that GT5 will be updated too, **** :/

I heard the simple fix was to buy the game and update your PS3 you dang pirate.

Not to go off-topic but here's the thing with homebrew; just about everything you can do with homebrew can already be done on a PC...which most of us have, especially if you can afford a $300+ PS3 or 360. Just sayin' :)

On topic; hoping to see Sony keep working on tightening up the security. It's nice to see the PS3 last as long as it has.

3.42 Game Medal of Honor - Now Fixed to Run With Jailbreak

Recently comments were made by high-profile developer Mathieulh claiming that a new encryption keys had been added to the 3.42 firmware update meaning that new games shipping with the 3.42 firmware update could not be decrypted on older firmwares and a simple PARAM.SFO patch simply would not work. Just four days later and a simple workaround has already been found!

3.42 is just a patch for the current exploit, the SDK for 3.50 mandates the new encryption keys. Firmware 3.50 is not available to us yet.

There's a reason all games released after October must be running on the 3.50 SDK and not the 3.42 one :p

It'll still be circumvented.

Not unless the new encryption key(s) get stolen/leaked again.
