Hedon
Yes, the Killzone 3 Public Beta Trial really is coming! Just like its predecessor, the multiplayer mode for Killzone 3 will be put through rigorous testing at the hands of the toughest, most demanding critics in existence: you, the fans. The Trial starts on October 25th and access is limited, so please read the following instructions carefully if you want to know how to secure a spot in the Public Beta:- Be(come) a Plus subscriber - With the exception of a handful of key media partners and selected PAX feedback participants, access to the Killzone 3 Public Beta Trial is limited to PlayStation Plus subscribers. If you're not enjoying the many benefits of Plus membership yet, now's the time to sign up! -Download the theme - On October 19th, an exclusive Killzone 3 XMB Theme will appear in the Plus section of the PlayStation Store. The first 10,000 Plus subscribers to download this theme (5,000 SCEA Plus subscribers and 5,000 SCEE Plus subscribers) will receive access to the Public Beta Trial. Check your email - After you've downloaded the Killzone 3 XMB Theme, you will receive an email on Oct. 25th containing the Public Beta Trial promotion code and further instructions through the address you registered as your PSN Sign-In ID. Make sure you've set your notification preferences to accept emails from SCE, or we won't be able to contact you. Those of you who make it into the Public Beta Trial are expected to provide honest gameplay feedback, report bugs and glitches, and help test our network code in real-world scenarios. In short, we're counting on you to help us improve Killzone 3! In return you'll get a good taste of the multiplayer mode, including its brand-new Operations game type, party system, and jetpack and exoskeleton vehicles. Hedon
More info from Sony: - Move and 3D are not supported here.- Theme is free and available only to PSN+- The Beta will last for as long as we need to get good feedback. - Theme goes live SCEE: 13th of October. SCEA on the 19th - We will be hosting 3 maps with the Exoskeleton and the Jetpack level being 2 of those. No content will be left out, as we want to test content that is in there. Obviously feedback will be paramount. So we might feel the need to change/remove/add stuff. Same link as above.
LingeringSoul
Having to be one of the first people in your region to download that theme sounds like way more trouble than it's worth. Should people just refresh/re-enter the PSN screen repeatedly until it shows up? Not surprised to see the PSN+ requirement, though. I see this becoming the norm rather than the exception as time goes on. Still not tempted to bite the bullet though.
DPyro
I would have though we'd automatically get an invite, why should I have to scramble to download a theme?
Boxster17
Will download the theme and see what happens, but not going to go out of my way to try and 'make sure' I get into it.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted October 12, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted October 12, 2010 Some people got invited early, for everyone else the theme is up on the store at 8PM UK time tomorrow. My first impressions are:+ Controls are noticeably more responsive. My guess would be 100ms. No one is going to have problems with these no more so that's history. Feels really great! + Graphics are fantastic. It's like a more dense KZ2, quite more detail per cubic meter (and I mention cubic because there's so much dust and light rays and whatnot). + Lightning is fantastic. It's the blend of different color lights that illuminate from various angles that makes it really stand out. The SMG steel shines blood red when muzzle fire is showing while in the background you see blue light across steel construction while orange beams flick through moving smoke... fantastic. Number one lighting anywhere? Shadows have penumbra as well. + Texturing has received a facelift. Dynamic lighting really brings out bump/normal/reflection. + Soundside is good and crisp. No music in Beta (haven't played Operations yet though). ISA gun is a bit meatier. + Menus are softer and more responsive (no headache inducing bad tv signal art piece) + Fewer explosive weapons and the ones that are seem to highlight armor & bot destruction contra mass slaughter. + Cross instead of dots as the reflect sight standard, reflect sights in general make the gunplay feel a bit more precise. + Soldiers have realistic weight, you can't vault over anything more than fence/create sized and movement is human. + New guns and improved classics feel great. Silenced TMP is really fun. - I'm not sure if MLAA is yet to be activated or if it's because of KZ3's obscene amount of particles and small details but the image on a large 1080p screen isn't perfect. On par with KZ2 in this regard (in terms of cleanness) and the market standard (though it is 720p unlike the market standard). Most likely final. Not perfect but good. General: <> Reload is faster, scoping is faster <> Repairing is not a 'weapon' you switch to anymore but a skill animation instead (cool animation!) <> Score pop ups also include text description (destroyed turred, assist, headshot) <> Medic flying bodyguard droid slams into walls and roof following you everywhere, being aggressive. Fun dude. Wish the Beta included: - 3D - Move support - Tournament aspect - Rest of the game lulz
shakey
They should make it available to all + members, not just the first 10k that get a theme....

etempest
I wonder if this would be "some" PSN+ users, past beta's have not been all PSN+, same situation with Qore subscribers.
KoL Veteran Posted October 13, 2010 Veteran Share Posted October 13, 2010 I would have though we'd automatically get an invite, why should I have to scramble to download a theme? Yeah that sucks. Every PSN+ member should be on it.

KoL Veteran Posted October 13, 2010 Veteran Share Posted October 13, 2010 I don't see any theme. And the theme wasn't going to be available on Oct 19?
Livin in a box
Meh, I got it 10 minutes ago so I guess I won't get in. Was never a Killzone fan away, KZ2 felt really clunky.
