.KICK
Maybe that is why Sony have green lighted this then. They don't see it as a real threat? Or it can only ever be SD? Surely, they wouldn't want to offer SD movies on their beloved HD console? At the moment there are none on the website so I wonder how this would work. Lovefilm would need the infrastructure to carry this out unless Sony is going to help. I don't see why Sony would see this as a threat, if anything it would help them. If only Microsoft wasn't so uptight on stuff for the 360, we would probably see it on that too as well as the cancelled iPlayer app. :( Off topic - Is the PS3 ever going to get the ability to view HD content off the iPlayer? DrunknMunky Veteran Posted October 11, 2010 Veteran Share Posted October 11, 2010 Well like AT said, it'd be in direct competition with Sony's Movie Store if it were HD, and a better deal if it is unlimited for £10p/m. Plus as the screen says, you get your regular DVD, BR and games as part of the sub. If I was Sony I wouldn't be too thrilled someone else was taking all my business & not paying for games. As for iPlayer, it's in limbo with Microsoft, not cancelled.(never mind just saw it is actually abandoned). And I'm pretty sure there was already an update in Sept to make it HD on the PS3, or it was announced then. Either way it's here/coming.

I don't think it would be a threat, they already have Netflix so I think it is just a benefit to the users! *shock* I have not seen the iPlayer do HD yet unless I need to get the latest update? Can't remember what FW I am on.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted October 11, 2010 Veteran Share Posted October 11, 2010 I think Netflix differs in that you have to spend extra to have the service on the 360. Whereas LoveFilm looks to be an all in one package (if the ?10 guestimate turns out to be real). Perhaps you need to sign up via the PS3 to take advantage, because obviously they can't take a cut from all of LF's subs.

True. there is no extra cost, just at the moment you have to get a disc from them that will allow it to play. Soon though we should be getting a app on the ps3 itself for Netflix. .KICK
Seems a bit cheap which seems to make me think its not going to have such a huge or great library. Website doesn't have a whole load of decent films to stream. I guess we'll have to wait and see but this is still good news though.
game_over
Does viewing on PS3 count towards 'online limit' fo ?5.99 you get 2 hours online viewing. So does this mean watching 1 movie a month on PS3? .. if so, i doubt i'll bother.

StealMySoda
Compared to library that Netflix has over in the states this is going to be pathetic, although at least the foundations are there for them to improve upon.
smiff
Theres always something to whinge about isn't there? I've been waiting for this for ages, before it was even announced as a real product. I love the pants of LoveFilm and am paying ?14.99 a month at the mo for any two games and/or dvds/blu-rays for an unlimited time. The fact that I'll be able to watch a load of movies instantly on my PS3 is fantastic. I've tried streaming from the website on my mac, but its showing its age unfortunately, so this is supergood. Granted there aren't that many top top films available on there at the minute, but whether that changes or not I'll still be chuffed to be able to just flick on one of loads of films at any one time. Also, I really, really don't understand why Netflix hasn't bought out LoveFilm (yet?) and rebrand it as Netflix UK. Seems like such an obvious thing for them to do...
