NoLiMiT06
I booted up my PS3 just now and had the option to install the Netflix app. Well I installed it and booted it up and it said that the product is not available in my location... NoLiMiT06
Well then why give the option to download and install it and not have a notice stating it won't be live until tomorrow?

NoLiMiT06
Well it is live now and I am not impressed with the interface at all... The 360 and Wii interface to me is way better and it takes forever to load compared to the 360 and Wii. Oh well, guess that was happens with free online with the PS3... Ironman273
The UI seems OK, definitely a big improvement over the disc version. I just wish it would scroll the movies over instead of just showing 5 and then having to scroll the cursor over the "see more."
Hedon
Last I checked the wii was free too... I didn't realize Wii had online :p I agree, the PS3 UI isn't the best, but it looks like it gets the job done.

It's their app, not Sony. Same as the BBC are responsible for the iPlayer app.

Saying that, the iPlayer app does a great job considering it is just using the web browser.

NoLiMiT06
Yes the Wii is free but it's better than the PS3 one IMO, I am not trying to start anything I am just sharing my opinion on the app. ;)
Dirk
Anyone found a movie with 5.1 yet?
shakey
Yes the Wii is free but it's better than the PS3 one IMO, I am not trying to start anything I am just sharing my opinion on the app. ;) after playing with it just a little more, I'm only hating now the slow feeling it gives off when pressing from one movie to the next. Everything else I have not got used to. To find a movie with 5.1, just press X on it, and in the description window, at the very top, it will tell you if it is HD and if it also had 5.1. If you do not see either of those listed next to the title in the description window, it will not have it. Nat Geographical has some. Scorpion King I believe does as well... haven't had much time to browse it all.

x9248
Just signed up with a free 1 month trial today, not really impressed. The application itself seems smooth, dunno what all the complaints are about (although I've never tried another console for comparison). It's pretty much just the selection that turns me off. I figured they wouldn't have everything available but I was expecting more than this considering how long they've offered streaming service. Plus as a foreign film fan I'm not happy some movies are dubbed to English with no option to change to its native language :x

Plus as a foreign film fan I'm not happy some movies are dubbed to English with no option to change to its native language :x They actually have more of a selection now than they did before, but I feel ya on that. I am also very displeased with the foreign section. I read somewhere that there would be a setting for subs and different audio tracks, but that may be just for the 5.1 movies, and those are really just a few titles at the moment. I sure do hope they update their back catalog with HD and 5.1 sound as well as giving the foreign/anime section a audio track/sub selector. Other than that, the only other down side is how slow the UI is. Titles take a bit to load up sometimes, scrolling fast is just useless because nothing loads up and it just blurs to the end, then loads up lol. I'm sure this will get better with a little more time, but at the moment, there is still a lot to be dealt with.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted October 18, 2010 Veteran Share Posted October 18, 2010 I guess I am the only person that actually likes this version of Netflix. Being able to change what audio track I want and if subtitles are enabled just from the main movie information screen is a really nice addition. Not all movies have it, but it does not just have to be a 5.1 movie. I swore I read someone earlier said it did not have as many genres under genres, but it appears to have the same ones it always has, including horror, which I feel like that person said they did not have it. As far as the sluggishness, I really only experience it when something first loads up, such as the Instant Queue, but then it is not an issue at all. Perhaps this is where having Verizon Fios comes into play, but really does not seem that unresponsive at all, at least no less responsive then the other versions I have used on the 360 and the Wii. My only complaint is having to choose the movie to see if it is HD, as on the 360 version it has an icon right from the Instant Queue, but that seems to be something they can fix in an update. It just seems that right now barely any movies actually have 5.1 sound right now, I just chose some random movies out of the 110 I have on my Instant Queue, and only 4 out of the 15 or so I checked out real quick had 5.1, so hopefully this is something they continually push out and update as time goes on. Other then that, seems just as good as the other versions out there, and in some aspects like the subtitles and audio tracks (I watch a decent amount of foreign flicks as well) it seems easier to choose the alternate audio track and subtitles, so that is better. I also like the very minimal look of it all. I guess it could look fancier, but I just like my UI's to work, I do not need reflections and drop shadows to like it, but that is just a personal preference. shakey
Dirty, how did you change audio tracks? Is it when in the movie, or somewhere else? I still need to mess around a bit. But ya, on the genres, my old disc had like Gory Horrors, Horrors, ect... but this one seems to have just the basics of Action/Adv , Comedy, Family, Horror... x9248
I tried to watch Shinobi (English dub only... by Funimation of all people ugh) and it was letterboxed on my HDTV. At the beginning of the movie there's some text, which it shows subs for, but they were cut off due to the upper letterbox black area. Horrible, just horrible. Gonna try some others, they all better not be like this. Edit: Shakey, there's an option to select audio in the video's description but not all of them have it. Also in this area you can choose subs... of all the ones I saw they said "none" but they were in the movie.
shakey
Awesome info. Also, found out that all the categories are there, they are now just more categorized lol. Under horror i have gory horror, instead of it being its own section. I like this set up now, and really await some improvements that are sure to come.
