Netflix from XMB...

OK, finally got to try it and was pleasantly surprised. I was thinking that the 5 across listing would seem limiting but since it goes further down it's fine. Also, it was not sluggish at all. Overall the experience was definitely something I could stick with. The only drawback for me is my lack of a proper remote for the PS3. I should probably invest in the Harmony PS3 remote dongle thing since I have a Harmony remote for my entertainment system.

Ya, the sluggish feeling only last a bit I noticed. My little testing this morning was not enough....

For a remote though, the sony ps3 bluray remote works well for it.

Dirty, how did you change audio tracks? Is it when in the movie, or somewhere else? I still need to mess around a bit. But ya, on the genres, my old disc had like Gory Horrors, Horrors, ect... but this one seems to have just the basics of Action/Adv , Comedy, Family, Horror...

Ahhh, yeah, I did not know you could break it down into specific genres like that within a genre, definitely do not have that as an option, at least not from what I saw.

And x9248 already covered it for you. (Y) But just an option if the specific movie supports it. Seems like most newer ones did.

I have a Harmony One remote, and I was considering the dongle for the PS3, but it would have to be able to power the PS3 on. Do you know if it does that?

Apparently it should do, just did a quick google and it brought up a few pages suggesting so, but also a few of people with problems doing so.

Here's a review I found on Amazon (short answer: it seems so)

This device is the one PS3 and Harmony remote users have been waiting for. It is very responsive and has all the functionality of the Sony brand PS3 remote (on my Harmony One at least...this may vary depending on which version of the Harmony you have and the number of buttons it has). A few caveats buyers may have about this unit are the price, and the chances are that by now, they already have some kind of solution to controlling the PS3.

$60 seems a bit high at first. The PlayStation 3 Blu Wave Remote and the Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote are both considerably less than this device. However, they both have some drawbacks as well. I have both of the above mentioned remotes. The Nyko is a decent solution for universal remote owners as it allows the PS3 to be controlled through any IR remote (it's especially easy with Harmony remotes, as Logitech has the Nyko device available for programming through the Harmony software). The issues with the Blu-Wave are that you can't turn on the PS3 through the remote, it uses up one of your PS3's USB ports, and it also can be a bit glitchy. Often it will stop responding altogether and I'll have to unplug and replug the USB receiver for it before it will work again. The Sony remote works well and the nice part about it is that you don't need a direct line of site between the remote and the PS3 because it connects through bluetooth. However for all of us who have universal remotes, you'll need to keep both your universal and the Sony remote on hand.

If you are like me and absolutely love your Harmony and are borderline OCD and must be able to turn your PS3 on and off through one unit because you can't stand to have multiple remotes out, then this is $60 well spent. The other options that I've seen that allow power control of the PS3 through Harmony remotes are the IR2BTci and the PS3IR-Pro. These devices are a better comparison to the Logitech Harmony Adapter because they add similar functionality. I have not tried either of these devices personally, so I can't comment on how well they work...however, I can say that they are considerably more expensive than $60, if you can even find them for purchase from a reputable vendor (at the time of this writing, the IR2BTci is $150 and the PS3IR-Pro is $100). Also, aesthetically, they don't hold a candle to Logitech's adapter. The Logitech unit has a small form-factor, and also matches the finish of the PS3 perfectly, while these other units seem to be a tad unsightly and slightly bulkier as well. And as for performance, while I can't say how the others perform, I also can't imagine them being able to perform much better than this Logitech Adapter (which seems to be virtually flawless in terms of performance).

If you're tired of the spotty performance of the Nyko Blu-Wave or having multiple remotes out (or are simply looking to get your first remote for the PS3 and already own or are planning on getting a Harmony remote), I really can't imagine that you'll have buyer's remorse from spending $60 on this, as it is a really great device.

Thanks. I have googled it, but I seem to get conflicting reports in my reading, so it's confusing.

it is rather nice to have it on there now without the need for a disk however, the only issue that i have with it is the fact that it takes more than twice as long to boot to the app than the disk did.

Looks like they updated the UI, I like the way it looks now but still a little sluggish. Not a problem still usable.

Funny, I haven't needed a disk with my wii to watch netflix for about a year. wink wink

sure that may be the case but this new App is a much newer more sleek adds more features so you may want to download it oh and performs better

WEon't happen yet. Until I know whether there is a homebrew app for this I would rather not screw around with my settings. I really have no need for a search feature and the additional audio feature does nothing for me. Oh, and it performs great already.

see you all say this now until you get your hands on it and be like ( oh wow ok so this is why everyone was giving it high praise over the original App )

Just meant it was not a deal breaker for me to get this until it was published in the homebrew market.

And it already has been and it's already installed on my wii...taadaa

I got this remote with my ps3 in a bundle. It is great. Does everything one of the controllers do, plus a little more. You can use the X, square, O, and whatever buttons to control a film, or just use Play and Pause. What really makes it shine is that it connects via bluetooth, so you don't have to be in sight of what you are wanting to control.

What it does lack though is lit up keys when in the dark, and a 1 button on/off. It does have eject, and you can use the ps home key to do everything else.

But it works in scrolling through netflix menu, selecting items, and then controlling the playback just fine.

For those of you able to use Bravia Sync, this works wonders with it! No more having to use the PS3 controller to watch movies. (Y)

Hmmm, I think I may actually have this option on my Bravia. Have to check it out.

I believe Bravia Sync only works with Slim PS3s.

I have both systems at home ps3 and xbox360, I prefer the 360 version only cause it just shows me movies I can stream, not the dcs crap, am tired of paying netflix for movies that my mail man steals. Oh and the 360 is faster

Which is probably the main reason I never checked it out. Oh well, no biggie, I am actually one of those people that do not care about using the controller, and have a PS3 remote for my wife.
