Oddworld On PS3: How

Recommended Posts

Hopefully as Oddworld fans you'll have been keeping up to date with the latest developer diaries over at the JAW website, and those of you that are keen to know how the game is progressing visually will have already digested the second such diary, which details what the team are doing to enhance the last-gen visuals and bring them up to date for the PS3.

You'll see from the blog that Just Add Water have taken the CG version of Stranger as a base and then worked backwards to create a nice, healthy 20,000 polygon model from the half a million version used in the pre-rendered cut-scenes. Once done, they then recreated the UV maps and then redid the textures using Ambient Occlusion, Normal and Specular maps.

So, how does the old guy look?

Pretty good, if you ask us.

The remake of the classic Oddworld: Strangers Wrath is currently locked for PlayStation 3 but the team at JAWare keeping an open mind about other platforms. The game will support 720p visuals with added character detail as seen above and plenty of new bonus content (althought what that is currently remains under wraps) and will also support the PlayStation Move.

I loved abe's oddysee and abe's exodus. Never played these ones though, the change in gameplay put me off...oh, and the fact one of the next ones was Xbox exclusive IIRC...
