+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted October 18, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted October 18, 2010 There is a launch event this Thursday in London for the MUBI app on the PS3. The app originates from the site mubi.com which is an online service allowing you to watch films. Some are free, others have to be paid for. The same set-up is transferring to the PS3 service. You may not find your latest action packed blockbuster on the app however. Previously called theauteurs.com, MUBI focuses on art cinema and films that are highly regarded by critics as masterpieces of cinema. Often you will come across festival award winners, an indie film gem and maybe your favourite art-house title. Names like the Coen brothers, Godard, Kitano, Almodóvar, Tarantino, and Van Sant. MUBI is not just about discovering wonderful new cinema or classic masterpieces. It's also about discussing and sharing these discoveries. This means it will also act as a social network, where like-minded people can discuss these cinematic gems on their consoles. You can rate and become a fan of films, share your recommendations on PlayStation Network and Facebook, follow your friends, and get real-time updates on the films they love. The service will be available in UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Australia and New Zealand. An 'all you can watch' monthly subscription is €12.99 / £9.99. Individual films are €3.59 / £2.99 each.
