'Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Tim Smith (thesmudge@hotmail.com) on 28-07-2003 1:35 AM

553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)

'

i have no clue what this means - but i've been trying for months, just hoping there's a quick fix? i was sending emails back happily through the same account, but just started not working???

anyhelp would be greatly appreciated :)

From my powers as a Moderator :shifty:, I noticed your on BT ADSL - is this BT Broadband (Not Openworld ....) by any chance? ....

If so, then you can't send mail unless you use a SMTP relay for mail :/....

Talk to me via PM if you need anymore help :) ....

Radish?

I dunno if this will help....but I had kinna the same problem

I own my own domain and have been using that as my primary email. The servers were:

outgoing: www.mydomain.com

incomming: www.mydomain.com

Was all working fine and then blam....could receive but not send. Tried forever to fix it myself and then called my hosting support. They said all was fine. Got hella ****ed and then called them back. Got this one tech that was very cool (he even hooked my up with a good amount more space for nuthin too !!) and he said to call my ISP. Well, did that and found out that I have to use their outgoing mail servers. Due to issues with spammers....so they can "monitor" the situation.

NEways...might help yah out....

Your ISP has blocked Port 25/SMTP for sending mail ....
- that wasn't very nice of them was it?

From that error - I would double check that you are sending to the correct smtp server. And that your return address is correct for that ISP. It is very possible to restrict a smtp server to only accept email outbound from specific people, etc..

A quick look shows the server for your address as;

;; QUESTION SECTION:

;elected.plus.com. IN MX

;; ANSWER SECTION:

elected.plus.com. 86400 IN MX 20 mx.last.plus.net.

elected.plus.com. 86400 IN MX 10 mx.core.plus.net.

They accept mail for that domain. But do not want to send outbout from your address.

Connected to mx.core.plus.net.

Escape character is '^]'.

rcpt to: webmaster@elected.plus.com

BTW - you should be getting test message from yourself :)

But they do not want to send outbound when using that address as the from;

mail from: webmaster@elected.plus.com

250 ok

553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)

I have not bothered to dig into how this is all setup. But a quick looky seems that your domain is being being hosted on plus.net.uk?? Anyway - you might want to take a look at support. This little tidbit about their email and smarthosts, etc.. Seems to be talking about your issues;

Dear Customer,

This announcement contains important news about your Email service. Please read the information below and confirm your settings are correct.

We will soon be upgrading our backup SMTP Email server. This will improve the efficiency and reliability of the service which queues email that can't be delivered to your mailserver. Without this service, any emails sent to you while your mailserver is off-line will bounce.

Can you please ensure that your mail server uses the following settings:

1) Set your SmartHost (outbound mail): relay.force9.net (NOT autoturn.force9.net)

2) Command to Dequeue Mail: finger postmaster@autoturn.force9.net

If you are hosting domains on your account, _SMTP needs to be activated in order to benefit from the backup service. This can be done from the domain control page - http://www.f9.net.uk/my.html?action=domainv2

Our Support Team will be pleased to help you with any additional questions you may have.

You can use the convenient Contact Us facility that is available on the Web site Portal - http://www.f9.net.uk/contactus/. Alternatively, call us on 0845 1400250. We're here to help, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.

And hey we are here to help - but I fail to understand the month(s) time frame? I would get with your ISP, and or host of your domain on any issues on why outbound mail is not working, etc.. How could you possible not notice, or not get working in a Month???

I am curious though what smtp server you are trying to send mail too?? Is it your ISP, or your WebHost? It is quite common for ISP's to not allow outbound email from their servers, unless your talking to them from their network. And as far as domains hosted. It is quite common to not allow outbound mail, unless the mail originated from the server itself, etc.. They do mention something about a smarthost in that blurb from the plus.net.uk site. Which would be a smtp server another smtp mail server would forward all mail to, etc..

If you have general questions on how smtp works - just ask. But without some more details of exactly how your setup, and what servers your trying to send mail outbound from - and from where, I can't tell you much more.
