PS3 is No. 1 connected home console

Recommended Posts

It's not whether or not I care, it's the real reason Audioboxer is posting it. Take a look through the other threads he's started, many of them are just selected articles that try and belittle the Xbox and it gets boring. Normally I stay out of the Sony Console area but it pops up in the Mini-Spy.

What I love is that people insist on pointing out that Audioboxer is the only one that does it, because he isn't, there are a bunch of people on here that like to only post Good news for the console of preference and bad news for the rest, if you don't like it, ignore it, but don't go round pointing the finger at only certain people when there are far more.

In the end it doesn't really matter what AB posts, these are game consoles, they will do fine regardless of some random guy on a forum says or posts mocking it or otherwise.

This is hardly surprising, this is probably due to the fact that PS3 has done Wi-Fi out of the box from the start without any attachments needed. In the next year, I can see Xbox 360 overtaking this easily with the new Xbox 360 S consoles that have recently come out.

exactly, most people don't have ethernet going to their tvs so no way to connect the 360 (except the over priced wireless adapter)

Exactly, even those that don't use it for online gaming can easily just hook up their wifi and use the iPlayer/Vidzone/Browser. Something that wasn't so simple on the xbox without bring close to the router or spending extra on the wireless adapter.

The integrated adapter in the PS3 would go a long way to making up these figures.

People stop moaning about AB too, this forum would be a lonelier place without people out there to make these posts!

I think its very possible that PS3 has higher number of connected consoles.

1. Every PS3 has WiFi built-in.

2. PSN is free

3. Don't have to pay extra for Netflix which in case of 360 you have to have a Gold account.

Also, people mentioning here that on the 360 you have to pay to get online which is certainly not true as Live Silver is free.

Just pointing to you that XBL is free to join as well. XBL gold has no bearing on connecting Xbox to internet. The OP survey is comparing paid XBL accounts with free PSN accounts instead of say PSN+

Xbox also doesn't require XBL account to play, not sure how PS3 works.

How many though are just like my parents and use it EXCLUSIVELY as a Blu-ray player because they "can't figure out how modern games work"?

I don't know of anyone nor heard of anyone other than your parents Minifig, soley using their PS3 for Blu-ray playback.

The amount of time and money the missus, myself and kids have spent on the PS3 far outweighs that of the 360. Luckily we also managed to get a PS3 fat on the cheap, so I can actually get on the slim a bit more :)

I was going to say I have both a 360 as well as 2 x PS3's but my second 360 just RROD two days ago when playing Halo: Reach. I'm tempted to get the new 360 model but can't justify the expense with the missus

LOL, this is my reply to that as well. Though I did buy the ps3 mainly because it could play bluray, and thus made my entertainment center all the better. But having games to play was another plus on it.

AB's mum & dad use his old PS3 solely for media :p

I know exactly two people that own a PS3. One is used exclusively for media (BD etc) and other mostly for games. I guess personal experiences don't count much? :/

Hmm, several of my friends use their PS3s soley as BD players, which I think is foolish, but it's not really rare. My office has a huge group that games online, over the past 5 years it has gone from all PC to about 95% Xbox 360 only, I have suggested on a couple occaissions we add a tab to the spreadsheet for PSN accounts and it always gets voted down with several replies from people stating they only use it for BD playback. Not sure how anyone who games would pass up some PS3 exclusives with a PS3 right in their living room, but it happens.

And AB's negative spin used to get me cranked too, but in the end I decided it's a public forum and I'm smart enough to know when he's spinning vs just posting news so live and let live. Someone else posted that he isn't the only one who does this, and that is true, but he is the most frequent one.

In the begining PS3's were being bought solely because they were the best/cheapest blu ray players out there, with pretty much future proofing available. I would think that there is a small percentage out there still being used solely for media, but nothing too great.

One thing not reflected is how many people actually continue to use their PS3 online after the first time getting online with it? I can only assume if I have a XBL Gold account I will use it regularly since I paid for it, can not say the same for a free PS3 account. I just bought my PS3 solely for BD playback and racing. I have yet to go online with it, it logs in when I turn it on but I do not play multiplayer yet. I save that for the XBL, just me.

In this comparison they might as well included connected blu-ray players as a console as well. since a lot of the connected PS3's act merely as a BD player, and need to be connected for BD live and updates for the still not finished BD format.

please dont Troll.
