johngalt
I am flaming you b/c you are trying to compare apples with oranges, which is what I just did in return to you, but obviously it went wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy over your head. Let's try again. Apple - Fruit. Orange Fruit. Same concept, but that is where we stop with the similarities. OK, now lets go here: Skyline - Car. Viper - Car. Again, same basic concept, but here is where we draw the lines. Third one (pay attention): Skyline - Car. RX8 - Car. Same basic concept, but *again* we draw the line here. The RX8 is N/A and is a Rotary Engine based car in a completely different class from the Skyline. Same holds true for the Viper / Skyline comparison they're in different classes. If there is to be a comparison made, let's do it with at least somewhat similar cars. Let's compare Granny smith *apples* to Fuji *Apples*. Krux
oh man, how ignorant can u get... i dont think im even gonna reply to this 1, but i suggest u do a search on one of my other replies a while back as to why ur so wrong.btw. HP per Liter is absolutely the most useless fact to measure a cars performance... no one uses it except for chatroom noobs who have nothing better to do than put up numbers. i dont know how this became a measuring device for power but all HP per L tells us how much gas ur engine will burn :) please, anyone talking **** about the Hemi can go home please!@!! No engine can come close to that of the Hemi. and there is a reason for that... Hemispherical combustion is the greatest thing to happen to the automobile since the Wheel!!! which goes back to my point of better engineering the viper burns way more gas but only produces 200 more hp
Sedriss
Well, if the the only way for the Dodge people to get back at other peeps by saying "Does it got a Hemi in it?" I guess the peeps over in Japan can go "Does it have a Turbo in it?"
johngalt
ya well he does make a good point that american engineering sucks!!! i guess thast why the Corvettes 5.7L engine can easily pump over 400hp and yet maintain 28mile per gallon gas mileage which is better than most japanese and euro v6 family cars. Do people not realise how much incredibly harder it is to push out big HP numbers out of big engines than little ones or should we strap turbos on anything that has internal combustion? Yeah, and if you read the forum attached to the RX8 link, you'll see down a couple of posts where an Australian is showing that their local V8s are getting better gas mileage than th eRX is. Go figure. Same persone also makes a case saying that the world's fastest non-funny car was clocked at 6.98 in the 1/4 - and had a rotary in it. I seriously need to verify that, though - Rotaries have been traditionally great at the low ends and horrible at top ends. Also, I cannot remember the company nam, but some company (and I want to say Rally Sport, but pretty sure that is not it) took and modified an RX 7 (1993 or 4) and converted it into a mean 465 hp machine - the RS 17 I believe it was. Wonder if they have plans to do that with the 8? And I still can't get over the 4 seats :bounce:

Look back in the muscle car era. You think that they cared?
Krux
I can see this thread is filled with muscle heads and since the skyline isn't "muscle" it must be inferrior because it was built a better more effiecnt way. the viper venom 1000TT or whatever is a 8lt v10 with 1000hp/torque the extrimiti Skyline is 2.6lt inline6 with 1300hp/torque both are running twin turbos HOW ARE WE NOT SEEING WHICH WAS BUILT BETTER?! why is this so hard?! why in the world would a bigger engine with 2 turbos ORANGES TO ORANGES HERE still make less horse power and have 6 more ltrs and 4 more cylinders?! why is this not penitrating your dense skulls?! johngalt
lol Sed - actually, immedaitely after, with the "oil shortage" years, it became very obvious that at least *some* cared.

johngalt
Yeah - we like our cars. In case one hasn't been able to tell by now, I ahve always been infatuated wit hte Rx line. However, I am a bit thrwon off by the 4 seats - even though my eclipse was a three seater (no way I am gonna let anyone site behind me - I always have to jack the seat all the way back....) and rumour has it that a true RX 7 remake is coming soon, so........ But I have to admit, I love the Supra TT also.....

bayrider
i think the henessy 800TT is only running at 4psi Sedriss: i didnt say anything about americans caring about fuel economy... did i? have u seena v8 that is so well engineered that it pushes 2x as much HP and burns the same amount of gas? krux: read my long post at the bottom of the page https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?act=...5&hl=murcielago once again, i emphasise the fact that it is easier to push out HP from smaller engines than it is for big engines... stop talking **** as if it is a miracle nissan is pulling 320hp out of a 2.6L engine and 2 turbos. GM made a NA 4banger Saturn engine push 1000hp... so i guess that saturn is even better than the viper and supra and skyline?? BETTER ENGINEERING?!?! oh and that would be a bone stock right out of the factory skyline to not a tuned race car like the SRT-10 or any of the others on that list for that matter. BETTER ENGINEERING?!?! Better engineering  ...no. Lack of government restrictions? Yes. If I'm not mistaken, the Skyline is not sold in the US...where almost every other car on that list is built. So they don't have to adhere to the restrictions and emission controls that are placed on cars built in the U.S. And it costs around 90k to import the Skyline to the U.S. ;) I'm just pointing out some things that were overlooked. I've removed emissions devices on my vehicles, and I know how much lost power is found by doing so.
Krux
then why does japan have cleaner air then we do huh? whats that all about smart guy? and how much do u think it is to import a viper to japan? a hella lot more since its base price is more then double that of the skyline. I was comparing base price not what our stupid government decides to screw us for. ORANGES TO ORANGES! can't tack an import fee on one with out tacking it on the other now that would be apples to oranges.
Sedriss
Well first off they better have cleaner air seeing as all they have are 6's and 4's. Plus, Japan is so crowded, its like trying to stuff 4 pounds of poop into a 2 pound bag. If your were to Import a Viper to Japan it woudlnt be as much as trying to import a skyline. The base of your R34 is like 89 - 90 grand. Thats about 10 more g than the Viper. Now think of all the modifications you would have to perform for the skyline to be able to meet out standards here in the usa. It would be so much a pain in the butt its not even funny. Thats why they wont introduce the skyline here as a regular model. Nissan doesnt wanna fork over the cash to put it through out tests. But sending a Viper over there would be a hefty amount also but not as much bull crap you would have to go through with the skyline.
