Tech Star
^ PSP is a complete failure? :s No it wasn't, read below. Compared to the DS, yes. Comparing it to the DS, it failed to beat the DS, but it didn't fail. The PSP was Sony's entrance into the market and they did not expect to overtake Nintendo just like they did with the PS1. The PSP2 is going to be Sony's real product to go vs. the 3DS head on. Again, can you please stay on topic. We would appreciate it. Thanks! Actually you brought up that the PS3 was ugly, so you should stay on topic also. You said that you thought the PS3 was ugly and he said he thought that the X360 was actually the ugliest console. You changed the course of the topic and rajputwarrior followed. Also, PS3's are not ugly.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted October 27, 2010 Veteran Share Posted October 27, 2010 If we're talking ugly, let's bring up the PS1. I mean.... gray?! REALLY?! That's the best colour they could think of?
Auroka
Not sure about this - the PSP has terrible battery life as it is - now its also my phone? I'd end up killing the battery playing games and be stuck phone-less for the rest of the day :/ Not a fan of the touch-pad - I rather have 2 nubs instead... carmatic
why does the external appearance of a console matter? what should matter is what comes out on the screen ::edit:: btw this playstation phone thing sure looks ugly
yekGLzhQ4Qju1FtAVcC4
It surprises me that Android is being used. It brings up a lot of questions as to how their GameOS will be implemented. Or will they run completely off the Android platform?
Hedon
why does the external appearance of a console matter? what should matter is what comes out on the screen It doesn't matter. The OP just asked if Sony has made any ugly products.
carmatic
methinks that the bosses mustve seen their shares start trending downwards after they made the 'its fake' announcement, and they immediately instructed their PR to retract and say something neutral instead It surprises me that Android is being used. It brings up a lot of questions as to how their GameOS will be implemented. Or will they run completely off the Android platform? well, ps3 runs linux, and android is based on linux, so there could be some connection there... i dunno... Hollow.Droid
I love the idea of this. Throw PSX4DROID on this thing and you've got one awesome gaming machine. All they need is a polished finished device and I'd buy this in a heartbeat. The modders over at XDA could have a field day with this mofo ;)
Southern Patriot
Again, can you please stay on topic. We would appreciate it. Thanks! Someone makes a (very subjective) claim that the PS3 is ugly. Someone else makes the (again, subjective) claim that the PS3 is not ugly, but that the 360 is. Then you come in and bitch about them changing the subject?? You really aren't that bright, are you? And who is this "we" you refer to? Do you have a split personality? The PS3 OS is linux? No, but the PS3 (well, before the 3.21 update) could run Linux in a dual-boot scenario with GameOS. At the launch, there was speculation that the GameOS was derived from Linux as well, but it was never shown to be the case. That speculation came from a misinterpreted quote from a Sony VP, if I remember correctly.
Kyang
I think the idea of a touch surface as the method of including dual "analog" sticks is interesting, but probably has the same problem as the current implementation of touch-screen controls in games for devices like the iPhone. The whole point is tactile feedback, which no touch surface of the type shown will ever provide. Also, to me, the PS One was the best looking console. yekGLzhQ4Qju1FtAVcC4
I believe that Linux ran in a seperate enviornment called 'otherOS' which had limited access to RSX and the SPUs.
Boz
i think the A and B buttons are going to be on a newer revision of the hardware than the prototype shown in the pictures... the dirty screen could mean that the hardware has been handled for some time, and the mismatching software could be an update meant for a newer revision for the hardware It's just a shell. They put electronics in to test out features, how everything works. It's standard practice. I also look forward to it. To be honest I could never get used to iPhone and playing games by covering the screen. It just always felt idiotic. Psp will be the first cool android device with tactile controller so I can see the full screen when I play a game.
