Canon 60D / Canon 550D(/T2i/KissX4)? - Need help (lenses + which body)

Recommended Posts

I just read that the 60D lacks AF Micro Adjustment.

Any chance to calibrate a lens differently (/"manually"?) or are there plans/possibilities of integrating that feature with future firmware updates?

I just read about a Tamron lens, that's supposed to be good, but needs AF Micro Adjustment.

Thanks a lot guys!

You're really of great help! :)

I guess Canon DECIDED not to add AF Adjustment to the 60D to differentiate it from the 7D. Microadjustment tends to be a feature seen on higher end bodies only. I do not think it's NEEDED, but it could squeeze a little extra sharpness from any lens.

The Tamron is indeed supposed to be very good though I can't vouch for the VC version.

Is there NO way of calibrating the lens - SOMEhow?

ANY way? I mean, the next step is the Canon EF-S 17-55 USM IS @ 2.8 which is EXTREMELY interesting, but it also is very expensive. - VERY expensive.

I've gotten used to Optical Image Stabilization due to my Lumix FX35 and saying good bye to that seems like giving away an always good helper and friend!!!

To be honest with you, I do tend to have rather still holding hands, but I really do not want to rely on that and cramming out a tripod for those "oh look!" shoots is a) often impossible and b) tends to be ultimately impossible when you like to take photographs on the ride (bus/train) like me.

I want to cover the range of about 17 to at least 50mm at constant f/2.8... What are my options? I'd LOVE to get the Canon, but it is just way too expensive for me atm.

Decided to buy the VC variant as I will greatly need it.

Calibration will be done by a licensed Tamron support center in Hamburg.

On another note: Does anyone know a good Geotagging solution for the 60D?

Well, I guess you should try it out first, then calibrate if necessary.

BTW, I'm at work right now, MSN is blocked here.

Sure thing! That's my plan!

Just ordered the lens from eBay (used, but practically in mint condition) for a low 350?, usually that lens goes away for 390-400!

I'll have to wait for more money so I can buy the body as well. Sooo looking forward to it! :D

No probs, I'm in the kitchen in a few secs and prepare some nice food!

("Mexican style")

Might post pictures, if you like. Own recipe and it's going to be yummy!
