Frogboy Administrators Posted January 4, 2002 Administrators Share Posted January 4, 2002 If Cuzzo were actually interested in a real discussion he would have posted this on the WindowBlinds support forum (news://news.stardock.com/stardock.windowblinds) (which is linked from his installation). To say WindowBlinds hasn't changed since 1.0 is purely trolling (as were Cuzzo's posts). Virtually any msstyle available has a WindowBlinds equivalent which is what makes the "there are no good WB skins available" statement hard to understand. I can make Luna any color I want right from display properties, I don't need to download a purple one. WindowBlinds has skinned menus for around a year now. It has skinned the menubar for 2 years. That is the skin I'm currently running as I type this. The 4th button from the top right is known as a "Smart button". As a user, I can set that button to be whatever I want it to be (a website, a rollup, an always on top button, whatever). It's currently a roll-up button. I also have it set so that if I right mouse click on the title bar, the window will minimize which can be quite handy.
Frogboy Administrators Posted January 4, 2002 Administrators Share Posted January 4, 2002 Let me also demonstrate what I mean by coloring. Let's say I want to make a "pink" Luna (yea I know, yuck but it's just a demo). I would load up the WinXP skin I have, change the color to red. Then change the gamma to be lighter (I could just go right to pink but I want my other items to be lightened as well). Here's what it would look like: That's why you don't see 170+ Luna colorizations of WB skins. The user can choose from 16.8 million different colors. chuckyboy81070
but brad! like it has been asked before in this thread: what about the log off and shut down buttons on the start menu!? i'm a user of WB (love it as well as styles XP - heck, this bickering is hilarious to me!), but those buttons on the start menu are ugly with a capital "u" ! i'm looking forward to the day when as a registered OD user 1) the task panel in windows explorer can somehow be easily customized by WB, 2) the "locked" taskbar doesn't suddenly appear "unlocked" when applying a new skin or logging on, and last but not least, 3) i can get my hands on the XP Yellow, XP Cobalt, XP Emerald skins by Alexandrie. Logika is purty as well, but i don't want to pay for an entire suite just to use the WB skin. wish they'd release that one. lance
Frogboy Administrators Posted January 4, 2002 Administrators Share Posted January 4, 2002 The logoff buttons and other remaining GUI elements will be added over the coming weeks/months. There's nothing inherently difficult about doing them, it's just about finding time to do a given item versus the demand for doing it. Some of the things that have been pressing in the near term have been bug reports, compatibility issues, performance, etc. Consider all the XP specific GUI controls we already handle. Not only do we do the XP start bar and menu, we also provide animated mouse-overs for them. And we support XP-specific color attributes. There's only a handful of GUI elements not skinned even this early on. Then we have our own pet peeves. I have two big pet peeves 1) IE scrollbars and 2) An *optional* central skin cache to speed up skinning further - for those of us who don't spaz out over using an extra meg or two of RAM if it helps performance. The web view things on the left most people here have turned off because of wasted screen space for instance. Different people have different priorities on what is important. But we will get to them soon.
Dazzla Veteran Posted January 4, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 4, 2002 for those of us who don't spaz out over using an extra meg or two of RAM if it helps performance. oooh Brad, thats just gonna stoke the fires. heh heh heh. the day that Rhodium edge and Prophecy are ported to windowblinds is the day i buy it... chuckyboy81070
brad, where is the gamma settings in windowblinds? i love windowblinds, but i've never actually done any of the color stuff with it like you outline above. just for grins, i did it, but it only changed the color of the active window, not the inactive window or the taskbar, or the start menu. i tried the "force color...." option as well, but that seemd to only changed the windows background color in addition to the active window. this was done on the XP Platinum skin by the way. lance
greenreaper
It's up to the skin author if (and to what extent) they wish to offer colourising support (it's a little more work for them as masks have to be created). The force option is intended for skins that do not offer it at all - it does affect just about everything that isn't masked already, so it's not an ideal solution in most cases. The gamma setting is new in 3.1 (and probably won't be in the shareware version, since colourising isn't).
Seismo
Hey Frogboy, that theme you are using is awesome. What?s it?s name or better, where can I get it? Seimso
Frogboy Administrators Posted January 4, 2002 Administrators Share Posted January 4, 2002 That one is Logika. I got it from Pixtudio (www.pixtudio.net). They have quite a few others that are just as good too (if not better) than that one. They're the first ones to use the smartbutton features (even I haven't used them in any skins yet, ). The next version of SkinStudio will put in masks automatically though it's still more ideal if the skin author does it so that they have more control over what they want to be colored. The gamma correction works on all skins though and can make a big difference (many skins are too dark for my tastes).

suprfli
brad: i'm glad you posted about the color options in WB. that's one things i love about WB. i got the aqua OSX skin and i didn't like how dark the highlights and i wanted my highlighted text to be black and not white. all i did was go into the advanced options and slide the color bar to a lighter shade of blue and hit apply. now it looks exactly like i want it. antareus
Brad, I'm not trying to troll here, I never said there were any good visual styles either (except Watercolor :) ) I was just looking for some pointers. Liestman
Frogboy, I have been a member of object Desktop for 2 years now. I love the WindowBlibds. But 1 Question... How the hell do you skin the DISPLAY PROPERTIES? Is there something I am missing here? Or have to turn on? I also baught the Logika Suite :) And in your screenshot of your desktop, the Display Properties are skinned.. Thanks Jay.
greenreaper
Add SkinDisplay=1 to the [Global] section of WB.ini in your Windows directory. It's not skinned for safety, but it does stand out, I agree.
