I got a letter from the RIAA

That person would be risking his job if he used a client's personal info for his own enjoyment/revenge. That's reaching I think. Call back and see if you can talk to a manager or someone else that could help out. It could be that low level techs don't know what their company is doing.

I think the earthlink lady was telling you basically the RIAA requested info on all the customers and you dont have anything to worry about and your friend is just playing a joke on you.

Sorry man, but you are not being sued.

If you were, they have to provide evidence such as IP, Date and Time of scan, software used for the scan, evidence of the media on your HD with file types/size etc and more importantly, you wouldve been contacted by the courts if being sued.

Maybe its just the info below that has happened in whcih your ISP is just providing information.

Maybe is a cruel joke.

RIAA subpoenas ISPs

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has begun to tighten the screws on hundreds of users of peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing systems in the US.

It has issued subpoenas to internet service providers (ISPs) in the US to force them to identify customers who are illegally sharing copyrighted music over networks like Kazaa.

The RIAA, the US music recording industry's leading trade body, announced in June that it would use scanning software to find P2P users. Additional information freely available on the sites is then used to identify the user's ISP.

Supernova, I highly doubt the RIAA has that kind of authority. If they have suspicion that you are a high mover then I think they have the rights to check up on you but they certainly can't request all ISPs to give up info on every subscriber if they don't have a justifiable cause.

I do have a few techs at BHN (for digital cable) that I've ****ed off over time as far as adding new channels or getting a better HDTV box and getting DVRs and I did switch to DirecTV about 3 months ago. I do remember one guy who came out that really got ****ed at me. I did complain about him after he left my house. Maybe it could be someone there.

That would explain it....

lol

Well I'll have to let the RIAA and my ISP and such to go further with this since to be honest I don't know who actually sent this. The RIAA says the didn't send anything and BHN said the same thing. BHN now wants a copy of the letter and the RIAA wants a copy of the letter as well. I think between the two companies they will handle it and I don't have anything to worry about. I did mention to BHN about the a possible tech doing this and they said to send us a copy of the letter or bring it to one of our local offices.

I think it has to be a tech from BHN that I ****ed off. What else could it be. Can any of you think of what else it could be. Oh I forget but BHN wanted a copy of the letter because it had my account number on it. That means that it was someone from BHN that sent this out or had access to this information. I didn't even pay attention to it until she asked me to look to see if I could find it and there it was.

Groovedude the RIAA has now said they aren't sueing me and that it most likely is a ****ed off BHN employee or ex employee. Now I feel kinda bad about what may happen if it is that BHN guy because I could of been nicer.

This looks to me your "early days" Napster Nick has been used by someone else.

I don't think the RIAA lookup IP numbers, most providers have DHCP and you'll get a different IP everytime some maintenance has taken place or you've rebooted your cable modem.

Well maybe you should do the right thing and make sure that you set things right.

*If you were nicer, he prob wouldnt of sent the fake letter.

*He shouldnt of sent the letter

Now he may be fired. Probably over something soo superficial in the first place.

2 wrongs dont make a right.

Also thanks for all of you being so helpfull. It really is nice to have a place that would be quicker to find help than waiting on hold for an hour. You guys and gals are great. Thanks again. RIAA employee <- the man who sued too much...

USA has been developing towards a "I'm gonne sue your ass" society, everyone sues everyone in the hope they can make a quick buck.

I dont think its your fault either way,

I've been in situations where people have been severly nasty to me... as a waiter, librarian, even hospital volunteer. Evne though you grudge,.. you dont start sending out forged letters (Espeically since they can get you into deep sh1t). That man is diabolical... in every meaning of the sense. Malicious even...

either

A) Hes got mental problems, rather, stupendous issues

B) Very very bored D&D I live with my mom kinda guy or

C) Absolutely high... And I mean so high...
