System Restore Problems.

Recommended Posts

I think you guys are on to something. I have an Abit Mobo with Highpoint 2.3 raid drivers.

I have the same problem that Hispanic82023 has. Haven't tried to uninstall them yet.

Just thought I'd confirm your problem.

Although I know system restore is buggy for some people and doesn't always work, it always worked for me and it worked before I upgraded to the 2.31 drivers for my HPT 370A. By disabling system restore, Highpoint managed to delete every restore point store on my system. They are all gone. Now it will not function at all. I uninstalled the drivers and rolled them back to the 2.0.1019 and restarted. Went back in and re-enabled system restore and restarted the service in Admin tools and rebooted again. It still does not function. Not automatically or manually.

I have read through the release notes for those drivers and don't see anything in the text that mentions of disabling a service on my computer and destroying data contained on my drives without my knowledge or consent. I fired off an email to Highpoint but won't hold my breath waiting for a response. If they actually send me a solution, which I doubt, I will let you know.

When system restore is disabled,Windows deletes all the previous restore points. It has nothing to do with the Highpoint drivers.

It is now possible to use the Highpoint 2.31 drivers and keep the system restore functioning correctly.

All you have to do is go into the C:WINDOWSsystem32drivers dir and delete the hptpro.sys file.

This fixes the issue between the Highpoint drivers and system restore

Even so, I went back to the previous drivers 2.1019 and I still get the system restore problems which I never had before. Your suggesting of desabling system restore, rebooting, and re-enabling it works until you reboot the machine again. Is there something still in the registry relating to the v2.3 high point drivers that are affecting system restore?

It is the Highpoint driver file called hptpro.sys

Do a search for it. Rename it or delete it. On my system it does not affect the Highpoint controller at all by deleting it. My system restore is doing the EXACT same thing as yours HISPANIC. I had even been dealing with Microsoft on this issue for over a month. Try deleting the hptpro.sys file and see what happens. My SR has worked everytime since then.

Yeah just as RICHIE says. Check Paul's Unofficial Abit Site for Confirmation on the Highpoint controller driver (hptpro.sys)

Deleting the file and restarting solved the problem. Why would Highpoint write a driver that disabled System Restore on a users system without their knowledge or consent? I adjusted the amount of disk space it used, but never disabled it. WHen it would not work, I went in to the settings for it and lo and behold, its disabled.

Oh well, its fixed now, and Thanks Richie for the reply and the fix. It is much appreciated.
