Speed Web Design - YouTube video

Question

Hiya,

I've just finished creating a video showing the process of building a website right from the initial design in Photoshop through to the raw HTML and CSS coding.

Thought some of you would be interested!

It's best viewed in HD and full screen.

Here's a link to the finished website (which also just happens to be my web design business, surprise, surprise :p): webvortex.co.uk

Hope you enjoy it,

Nick

pretty cool :)

I had to mute the video cause you added coldplay in at the end (can't stand them), other than that, pretty cool stuff :)

Haha yeah knew some people wouldn't like it ;)

Jesus christ man, very nice video / music / work.

Can you please do a normal / slow one for us n00bs? I can code but i cant design for ****. Also do you use a web palette to match colors? I suck at matching colors and I dont know if theres a palette in photoshop that when you select one color, it'll show you all the colors that correspond.

Great video!

I don't use a palette to match colours, I just try out different ones until I think it looks good.

Is there much call for a slower version? Maybe just the design stage? I could upload a 10 or 15 min version of just the design if you want, that way it would still be faster than real time but you might be able to see what I'm doing more clearly - would that be a good idea?

Awesome work there, I love the video. I am a big fan of web design and try my best when I work on projects, but I have a big problem where I drift away from a project and it never gets finished. It's extremely annoying and feels debilitating. Like writers block. It's the same with other things I do though, not just web design.

I wouldn't mind a slower version of that video, but there is the problem with youtube's low video length cap even with it's increase a few months ago.

This is a good website for finding colors http://0to255.com/ , it gives you you chosen color in different shades of the same color. I am also a fan of colorcop on windows too, it can be handy!

How do you do your sites? Do you jump straight in with the coding or do you design it completely first? I would suggest knocking out a design first before you write a single line of code, then do the home page in HTML and CSS, then add any Javascript and then finally the PHP. There's no point trying to do everything at the same time, it'll bog you down and you'll get bored or frustrated. At least by doing it in stages you can have a break and then come back and do the next stage. For example you could do the design one week and then the HTML and CSS then next week then have a break for a month and then come back and do the Javascript. That way you don't need to worry about the layout any more, you just add in the dynamic parts.

It'll make it easier to concentrate.

Always wanted to learn web design but im not sure if it's laziness or confidence that's stopping me.

It's well worth it and not nearly as hard as you might think. w3schools.com is a great place to start. And don't get despondent if your first few sites are pretty ugly, you should have seen mine!
