Hikaru
Hello there, I had used ZoneAlarm Pro 4 (and before that, 3.x) for quite some time now.... However, lately, after hearing recommendations from my friends and reading some newspaper articles, it seems that Norton Personal Firewall 2003 is now better than ZoneAlarm Pro 4.. Any opinions? What are the features that are unique to each, if anyone noted down?
NeoSigma
ZoneAlarm I think has a more easy to use interface. Norton has a lot of options but I think its complicated. If you have access to NPF 2003 give it a try. I tried both but stuck with ZoneAlarm. But from what I hear they are both very effective and do the job. Might want to give this a look. imation2458
Sygate pro is by far the best software firewall currently.
uniacidz
ZAP i use. Remember to view only independent reviews as some reviewers are 'influenced' to give a better review over other software.

Gary_Player
I've always liked ZAP, one of my friends started using NPF2k3 instead and he said that he liked it better (more options to play with) but untill he got it configured just right it would block alot of stuff he wanted. Although, he's a big networking kinda guy so he knew the sollutions to most of the problems whereas most ppl wouldnt have a clue

Samoa
Kerio PF is the best. It is still free. Just configure it properly, like any firewall.
l77Il7H
i think windwos xp built in firewall is best! it doesn't cost anything, easy to use, install any software and doesn't have annoying pop up those firewall window prompting for access for the software. Pzaga
It has always seemed to me that NPF was always better than ZoneAlarm. NPF and NIS are very effective... ad blocking, spam blocking, and a whole lotta other stuff... the last time I checked, (which was quite some time ago...) ZoneAlarm didn't do any of that, except protect you from hackers and a few other related things. I've used both really, but I stuck with NPF. mAcOdIn Veteran Posted August 2, 2003 Veteran Share Posted August 2, 2003 I really like NPF as well. ZAP is definately great and even the free version of it is great, but NPF just is better in my eyes. In NPF the rules are more customizable, it does have ad and spam blocking, but in my use the spam blocking caused some drop outs with outlook so I don't use it. In addition it has some Intrusion Detection it it as well like Black Ice or Snort which adds another layer of protection, and while it's nice it's a little too paranoid, but it's better to have than have not. I also find NPF's interface prettier, but it is clunky when you want to fine tune a particular rule.
