configure Veteran Posted August 1, 2003 Veteran Share Posted August 1, 2003 Hi, I am behind a firewall that blocks all in/outbound ftp connections. When the system adminstrator was approached and questioned, he simply said that it's a security risk to be allowing in/out-bound FTP connections. How do I convince him that allowing an outbound connection to the FTP sites is fine? (considering that I'm right to think that it is fine :p)
Steven
Knock him on his keester and take over his job, what an annoying admin you have. You could try using Passive FTP.

The firewall is refusing the outbound connection so I don't think that enabling passive transfer mode would help :s The "knock him over and take his job" is a great idea... Specially after you get the "We don't know why we block it but we were told that it's the right thing to do" type of answer...
Silverity
inbound/outbound ftp is as dangerous as http :D lol and if you have nat, what's the problem? cuz nat wont allow inbound ftp connection if it wasn't requested by any pc in network

The guy just wouldn't listen and insist that all in/outbound ftp connections should be blocked by the firewall.
