foley7
I just bought a new house and I?m not going to run any Cat5. So I decided to go wireless. I am looking hard at the Extreme G series from D-Link and would like to buy tonight. My question is: I have both a PS2 and a Xbox that will be on the net, will I be able to connect them to a wireless 4 port router to talk to the other wireless router I have on my network? I am trying to limit the amount of money I spend and the amount of hardware on my network.

Can you please draw a picture of your Network Topology that way we can have an idea of your network configuration.
NeoMayhem
If you connect the old router to the new one with a crossover cable and use the same IP range on all of them it will work fine ;)
BroChaos Veteran Posted August 1, 2003 Veteran Share Posted August 1, 2003 just get a linksys wrt54g and a wet54g. i just installed them last night. everything is working great. i have my main pc hard wired to the router. then i have 2 laptops that connect wirelessly. then i used the wet54g to convert the xbox to wireless, and that is also connected. highly recommended. Gary_Player
I'd run hardlines...but thats just me... If you are going to go the wireless route, make sure you secure it properly. Limit the number of wireless users to 3 (2 laptops and 1 xbox), change your router's password, and theres a whole slew of other things you can do depending on what brand you get...check forums for more info I dont know how many ppl i've 'borrowed' wireless badnwidth from, but its up there around ALOT :D
