Trouble sharing ADSL Internet

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently got an ADSL Modem and it is working perfectly on my PC. I want to share the connection to another PC, as I was doing a few months ago with 56K without problems.

On the other PC now, KaZaA works very well at full speed, and you can sign into MSN using it as well, but no webpages open in Internet Explorer (I've also tried Mozilla).

Pings are grand on the other PC, too. It runs Windows 98. When I try to open up a webpage, it gets as far as "Web site found, waiting for reply". How can I get it to open webpages?

Here's a picture of the Network Connections window on the PC with the modem (WinXP). Does it look normal? I don't have much experience with DSL Modems.

I've tried bridging those two Local Area Connections, but to no avail. I'm using a ZyXEL Prestige 630 ADSL Modem.

Thanks.

The other PC doesn't run WinXP smoothly, so we switched back to Win98.

There was no problem with the 56K modem, so I don't see how this should be much different.

how are you sharing the connection? I recommend buying a firewall. Plug it in and after some basic configuraton, you're up and running fine.

Check your proxy settings in IE. (Tools - Options - Connections - LAN Settings)

Or try another browser to see if it is an IE-specific software issue of if it is a port 80 issue.
