+Warwagon MVC Posted August 3, 2003 MVC Share Posted August 3, 2003 Ever sense I've had XP there has been a network lag.. Not a leg as in slow... but say I want to access drive P on my 2k machine from my XP machine. When you first try to open it... it sits there for 10 seconds... then finally opens the drive. Then anytime after that it opens right up. But if you don't do anything on the network for 5 mins or so... when trying to open up a network drive or access something over the network... it will then take another 5- 10seconds for it to open. Now when I was using 2k as a primary computer.... anything network related would open fast at anytime. So far I've tried the following suggested by a google group thread 1) Take NIC off Auto-Sense and or Hardware default and set it to actual speed, in this case 100mbs/full duplex; 2) Raise priority of Microsoft Windows Network to 1 (Open Network Connections, select Advanced, Advanced Settings..., Provider Order 3) Disabled Opportunistic Locking on the server by opening Regedit, HKLM, System, Current Control Set, Services, LanManServer, Parameters and adding the DWord value EnableOplocks and setting it to 0 (the default). I also did a quick search on the neowin board to see if its already been posted... didn't see one that matched the description of this problem.
