Crisp
I've been hearing alot about POF cables, I don't know alot about them but could you think they will replace the standard CAT cables? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aud5eagSjIs
Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted December 14, 2010 Veteran Share Posted December 14, 2010 I do not think it is the future and what everyone is going to use however, it is nice. However, i the cost is anything like current Fiber it would be VERY expensive to setup.

Ci7
if they can rely the industry , sure why not. way easier to handle then cat cable just make it cheaper. edit : include VAT+ delivery 1.50 € / metre(s) http://homefibre24.at/POF-Cable
Buttus
don't you have to be really careful with dust tho? i'm not too savvy on it, but the little i've seen, some dust particles are bigger than the glass fiber, so it would block it pretty badly... AJerman
Did you guys watch the video? They mentioned that the cost is similar to current copper cabling, so cost shouldn't be an issue. I think it's fairly obvious that optical cabling will replace copper cabling for wired connections in the future, though I think wireless will be dominant in situations which allow it. sc302 Veteran Posted March 1, 2012 Veteran Share Posted March 1, 2012 Absolutely not. Fiber has been around for 30+ years and look where we are at today, running copper everywhere still. The future is wireless technology and it's growth. Plain and simple no one wants to see wires, no one wants to deal with wires, no one really cares about them. You can already stream 1080p through your wifi at home, so what makes you think it can't handle anything else? Until we have used the capability of copper to its fullest potential, I don't see it changing at all. Hell over copper you can run 10GB/s data transfers, you don't need fiber for that.
