Worried about Output to Amp for Surround Sound?

Recommended Posts

Sir Topham Hatt    268

So, I am looking at getting a decent-ish surround sound set up. However a lot of my hardware, such as DVD player / HDD recorder have only these connections in the back:

The red and white output jacks, but surely i'd need more if I was to get true surround sound? At the moment, I use a 2.1 upmix to 5.1 through some old Creative iTrigue 5600 speaker set and a simple 3.5mm jack out of the DVD player into the speakers.

Thanks for any advice.

For true surround sound, you're going to need to use optical, spdif (coaxial), our hdmi. The red and white rca cables will only supply stereo.
