+Elі Subscriber² Posted January 3, 2002 Subscriber² Share Posted January 3, 2002 Hello everyone, I remember a while ago someone posted the registry key that needs to be edited for the arrow on the icons on the desktop to desapear, I know you can install TweakXP or TweakUI and these programs have options for this, but I rather edit the registry myself than installing those programs, Any ideas on what needs to be done? Thanks in advance. Ely
Mysterio
To Remove the Icon: Open your registry and delete the value named 'IsShortCut' from the keys [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTlnkfile], HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTpiffile] and [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTInternetShortcut]. To Change the Icon: Open the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion ExplorerShell Icons] and create a new string value, or modify the existing value, called '29'. Set it to equal the filename, including path, for the icon you want to use for the shortcut arrow. By setting this to a blank icon it has a similar effect to the removal method above, without the side effects. Restart Windows for the changes to take effect. This and many other reg edits are at www.winguides.com, this one is particular is at http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/75/ Ciao..... Sonnyr
Download and install Powertoys for XP. Use TweakUI for XP and under the Explorer tab, choose shortcut. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/dow...s/powertoys.asp
