Detri
Super Nintendo FF's are better collectively. I prefer Xenosaga and Xenogears for PS/PS2, though. :)
fluxcapacitor
Final Fantasy VI I think will always be not only the best FF, but an RPG I don't expect to be eclipsed for a long time to come. Many have come close, most notably Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VII, but couldn't quite gather the "magic" that FFVI had. It was my first RPG, and is easily one of the finest games I have ever played all the through and then some. It's very difficult to pin point why FFVI is so great: the lack of a central character, the fantastic Ted Woosely US translation (probably the finest EVER...), or its' jaw droppingly perfect soundtrack. Everything the game was came together in a way to make me care about the characters more than any other game ever. The Opera House scene is one of videogaming's most glaring examples of how this medium can not only compete with movies, but also supercede them on an emotional level. I could go on for hundreds of pages about FFVI, but I'll end this saying it also has probably the best ending in a game...period. Your thoughts? Tran
FF 7 is, by far, the best Final Fantasy game ever! It's just... I love FF7!

John Veteran Posted September 5, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 5, 2003 they're all good, but ff8 is definitely one of my favorites  ff6 is by far my favorite :woot: and ff7 (maybe ff9) is my second favorite. ffx wasn't that good IMO, but blitzball was awesome. ff11... :x ... finall fantasy IMO should be a single player game. for some of the mini-games like blitzball or triple triad or tetra master, multiplayer would be sweet :D but i don't like the idea of multiplayer final fantasy. it's just not the same :(

Schmoove
Final Fantasy 7 is amazing, great story, great characters. Final Fantasy 8 was ok, it looks a lot better then 7, but it kinda lacks a great story..... the twists in the plot are not really that interesting, sometimes even too weird. Final Fantasy 9 is simply stunning just like 7. Totally different from 7, but still awesome. Again the characters are great, the graphics are even better then 8 and the FMV is simply amazing. Finish the game and enjoy the final FMV... what can I say.... I had tears in my eyes when watching it.

Arch
I'll probably upset someone by saying so, but I played Final Fantasy VIII and loved it, mostly for the story. The only actually complaint I've ever heard about it is "the magic system sucks", other than that, people just say that it sucks in general. I haven't played more than 15 minutes of VII, but I'm meaning to beat it all some day.. I just need the time.

I just need the time. VIII's story is just too childish for some people. I DESPISE the Guardian Force system ... Finger mashing isn't fun. The game, though, overall is decent. I'd rank it up there with IX and V. It's not as gripping as VII's storyline was, and the graphics don't do much to impress me. Also, the only thing that really kept me in the story was the progression of Rinoa. I had hoped they would have dug deeper into Zell's life, but they didn't, so ...
