xp install

Recommended Posts

i am having trouble installing XP Pro corp on my system. It took it about three weeks ago, but not now. I think it might have either to do with my removable harddrive cases or the updateudma.exe i used on my maxtor drive. It is a maxtor ATA100. I can install 2000 in all it versions, 98, and linux but not XP. Anybudy got any ideas.

It freezes at the text boot. I tried an answer file and it went until it was to format then froze. Any clue?

So just a quick update....

I said Fit and installed 2000pro with an answer file. I placed my 15 gig maxtor drive onto my old 233pII and tryed to install XP, just to see if it was my drive. It worked ..... XP installed on my 233 (i know it was just an experiement , it is coming off) So I have done nothing else to my system other that get a new cheap case. I am thinking that because my old case's power switch and such were fited to a special slot on my board, that because the switchs are sorta half on that that is what might be the problem. Anybuddy else have problems with their case doing this.

I would not have thought so either. when doing the text part of the install. the keyboard freezzes and does not respond. I tryed three different key boards and still nothing. I created a answer file to do a full auto install and it froze at the select partition part. It takes everything but XP. I have done nothing to my board since i last installed it and it has been an easy install every time i have installed it before. I thought it might be my drive, my copy or my removable HD cases but no. It works on my old PII. That can only be it. I might try tomorrow to switch back to my old case and see if it might work then.

So ... i finally got it install. I switched back to my old case and that did not help. I switched back to my new cas and tryed different ide connections, memory sticks and that did not work. I tried to use my compaq restore disk to put 98 back on and it died too. So I tried Linux, my comuter loved linux before. It died too. So I decide to put my computer back to OEM and try to sucker future shop into fixing it and giving me a new board and or CPU, i payed for that stupid warranty they all try to sell you. Well any way I was putting it back together and dicovered a litte spec of green under my heat sink. I then remembered the other discussion on the board about CPU over heating stalling the install. I reseated the heat sink and was able to install everything... so far. I have yet to switch back to by new case of try the other removable harddrive bay. Well .... here I go.
