How can you edit your boot.ini?

Recommended Posts

When my computer starts up, a damn window shows up put there by linux (which is installed on a partition with no drive letter, so i dont even know how to remove it), with options "linux, windows, floppy, failsafe). if i select windows, it gives me my old boot options of windows 98 or xp

I just got a new hd, and i want to install windows on that one, and making it start up by deafult with no options at startup..

I want to still use my old drive to transfer things i need as i use them on my new computer, but eventually id like to remove my old drive.

My question is, how can i stop the startup things from showing up? I just want to laod windows on my new drive with my old drive in as well, without the options at startup..

anyone know?

In a command window change type:

c:

attrib boot.ini -r -s -h

copy boot.ini boot.old

notepad boot.ini

Make the changes you need to then save and exit.

attrib boot.ini +r +s +h

You can change your start up options in the system properties on the advanced tab.

see example...
