major website makeover

Question

Hi guys!

Happy new year to all!

I'm starting on a new project at work, "website makeover", and based on what is requested from the company i thought what better way to ask a community like Neowin what they would change and improve.

Here's the website click here

Basically the company is asking me incorporate:

  • multiple shipping
  • have a "create your own basket" section
  • gift cards section
  • corporate link should require login info for clients to access it (how can i do that?)
  • add ups tracking system
  • update website visually

Thats what the company would like to see, but i know the website needs a major makeover because it is poorly designed with tables and so on, i'm almost thinking to change the entire design completely and start fresh, but I'm wondering whether doing that will cause any complications with the current store on it...

Anyways any opinions would be appreciated, as well as anything you would personally add to improve the site and have it more user friendly.

Thx in advanced!

there's gotta be someone who can identify this damn problem lol.... i noticed that using internet explorer the white background above the header shows no problem, but the drop down menu for catalogue appears behind the slideshow...

oic so i shouldnt use them together then?

to fix the problem with the white space... where the content and header spacer div's start, edit it to look like this

<div id="content">

<div id="spacer"></div>

<div id="header">

then in the css, add this:

#spacer {

height: 30px;

}

also get rid of the margin-top: 30px; in the header css. not very fancy but it works.

Make it the background of the content div and make it non repeating. there is some css that lets you position it at the button and right side.

i tried that... it doesnt seem to display correctly... i must be missing something and not realizing it...

here's the link to site... if anyone can view it and let me know that would be awesome!

http://www.testingsite.comli.com

I'm also looking to make the new site different but not just visually, by different i meant... offering new features that today are considered a must on a e-commerce website.

I found this shopping cart called Volusion just wondering what your thoughts on that are.

Also you can see on the website posted above... that there is a box above the mailing list... what would be something neat and cool to add there? please at work suggested maybe a news and events feed or having the twitter feed scroll through that lil box... i just dont know what to go with... any tips/opinions/advice would be great!

Thx neowin :)

No offence, but im not sure why you even put your name forward to re-design the website... It seems that you are turning to Neowin for every little problem you have.

I'm all up for helping someone when they are genuinely stuck on a particular problem, but this is just taking the mick.

I dunno, perhaps the others here might feel different...

well i'm not exactly turning to neowin for every problem i have.... yea i do ask a lot of questions about stupid things i'm aware of that...

all im asking for is mostly is opinions and feedback and help on certain things, i didnt ask for neowin to design the entire website for me as you noticed... but if everything ive posted is asking for too much then thats fine... this will be my last post.

I always thought of neowin as an helping community...

thanks to all of those who did help me tho... much appreciated.
