HD7 or Mozart 7

Recommended Posts

HD7 uses standard TN panel (same as cheap run of the mill desktop monitors) which maybe now capable of displaying equal amount of colours etc. What it does lack in is efficient brightness and viewing angles etc.

I assume you have a source for that information as HTC haven't released any information on what screen they used.

The reviews contradict each other as well, with some claiming it's SLCD and others claiming it's just a regular LCD.

As he says, though HTC make the phones, they source the screens from different places, and they're using different technologies. The only suitable 4.3" panels being manufactured at the moment tend to be LCD, whilst on the other hand, the main panel size for current SLCD screens tends to be 3.8", the size the Mozart uses, so the Mozart gets the *technically* better screen. They're both screens comparable to your iPhone 3G (other than the colour banding, but if you don't think about it you won't notice it most of the time), the Mozart will be notably better, but the HD7's won't go making you think your 3G's screen is amazingly better at any rate. There's something to be said for having such a big screen, even if it has to compromise slightly on the spec.

so y cant the 4.3" panels be SLCD?

Color Banding?

Because there probably isn't anyone manufacturing them at those sizes? :p I mean they could be theoretically, but the actual quality of the screen itself, directly next to an HD2 - the colours, the contrast, the brightness, the viewing angles - they're the same. HTC has never said, either on their sites, through any press events or any leaks that the HD7 was ever SLCD... it was just something tech sites made up themselves >.< <img>

I wonder if HTC is using different screens on the HD7 :/

There's a bunch of people on XDA swearing that their HD7 screen looks better than their HD2 screen.

It's possible but I don't think it's likely... 4.3" LCD's aren't all that common :p It could just be the OS itself, it visually presents itself much differently to WM6.5 Last I compared it was at Uni before I sold my HD2, and against the HD7 at Medium Brightness, with the HD2 manually set to something similar, and things looked reasonably the same. We didn't do a fair test at max because the HD7 did seem to have a higher max brightness, but everything else was pretty similar oO I'm surprised there aren't any good videos comparing the two :p
