Omen1393
One of the users over at Reddit posted in the WP7 subreddit that while talking to an MS employee, she said the next update will also add additional memory card support and be released on January 18th. George P Global Moderator Posted January 13, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted January 13, 2011 I dunno about that, seeing how the OS handles storage as a pool/whole. BUT, they could let you basically set a specific ammount to act as a external storage unit when you plug the phone in, maybe even let it show up in windows explorer. Then you can dump files in that set space and apps/OS can look at it to read files etc, and or even write to it if needed.
Omen1393
I think this update will just fix the SD card issues many of us have been having, so far my phone has been restarting 2-4 times every day because of my SD card. I doubt we will see "full SD card support" like Android. They may expose the camera folder in Windows explorer and fix the sd card issues but nothing more. reactionary007
anyone else have an issue where while browsing the marketplace, it locks up, and all you can do from that point is exit out to the home screen - but from that point on your marketplace and the music and videos hub are hosed up until you power off and back on? had it here since day one with an HTC Surround. hoping that is fixed for me with upcoming update. Apparently this happens on all WP7 devices, I have the same issue on my HD7, thankfully Microsoft know about it so it should be fixed in the first update. They probably won't expose the camera folder either, they don't want you dumping in random iamges or files in there :p
Chsoriano
I could care less if they give access to the microSD card (I care more about access to Skydrive folders/files, with proper skydrive sharing/permissions support and the ability to download or upload files built in)... But I do hope they address the performance issues with microSD cards soon. My 32GB sandisk card works, but I also have random reboots about twice a day... so I hope they try to alleviate that. micro
This is absolutely wrong. 1. We wont see the update till atleast February. 2. Copy N Paste, Misc bug fixes, faster app loading are the only features coming. 3. Likely that you will never have full sd support until windows phone 8. I totally agree, it's stupid that the Office Hub doesn't even have Skydrive integration.
George P Global Moderator Posted January 14, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted January 14, 2011 I totally agree, it's stupid that the Office Hub doesn't even have Skydrive integration. But it does. I dunno why people say it doesn't, the only limit on it is that it just works with OneNote right now. That should change in time though and then you can do the same with the other apps. I've been using the OneNote skydrive sync and it works good, there's one weird bug when you create a new notebook on skydrive and open it on the phone the note titles mess up. But that's about it, the rest works fine. You can make a notebook in OneNote on the PC, save it to skydrive and then the phone should automatically see it and grab it/sync back with it if you make any changes. Prince Charming
Yeah, the Skydrive Onenote sync is a kind of beautiful hidden secret that more noise needs to be made about. It works great, and Onenote is a great WP7 feature - notes, voice recording, cloud sync that just works, can view the notebook in any web browser, and so on. It would be nice to see full and proper Skydrive integration though, or even a (native?) Skydrive client so one can browse one's files on Skydrive and upload to Skydrive somewhat more seamlessly than having to use the Skydrive website, which is I think what neo158 is talking about. George P Global Moderator Posted January 14, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted January 14, 2011 We'll probably see expanded support for automatic skydrive syn with the other office apps first before we probably get a native skydrive app on the phone, but who knows. Hell we still don't have a native WLM app for example.
tomwarren Veteran Posted January 14, 2011 Veteran Share Posted January 14, 2011 Seems too soon to be honest. I'd expect early February as Verizon and Sprint are still testing the update ready for their CDMA devices.
Invizibleyez
I still don't know why I can't transfer office files to my phone from my computer. The computer has office, the phone has mobile office, yet I can't transfer a file from my phone to the computer, or from the computer to the phone. I can transfer music, video, pictures, but no office files. I would love this to be changed, but I think this is more a zune software problem than a phone problem. Stick them on Skydrive and open them on device through the browser (and save), or email to yourself, then you'll have them on device. You can do this, but the suggested scenario is via a sharepoint server, which then bypasses the issue of maintaining file versions on multiple devices. Maybe I should have made it a little clearer, I'm aware that OneNote has Skydrive integration, Skydive should have been fully integrated with the Office Hub to enable you to retrieve files dropbox style. I also fail to see why people WANT desktop sync, it's such a 90s way of getting content onto your phone, I know that you need to initially to start getting media onto the handset, but you can then set up WiFi sync. George P Global Moderator Posted January 14, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted January 14, 2011 The Zune player is fine for media sync etc but not so good when it comes to photos (you should be able to do it through Live photo galary imo) and as such it has zero support for office files or any files really. I doubt MS wants to add that into Zune so I think we'll get a updated Live app for photo support which is needed and then they should also just upgrade Live Mesh to support WP7. Mesh is the answer to local file sync and also skydrive sync as well. Just upgrade Mesh to support WP7 and that should cover any file/document needs imo. I wouldn't count on seeing other Office apps syncing that soon - the main reason OneNote does it is because it was the only Office program that already has syncing support, and configured servers set up - none of the other apps have that set up, but I'd expect atleast an option to swap out Sharepoint for SKydrive. Half of the Office hub is wasted on something most users will never use at the moment o___O

Microsoft applications are fragmented worse than android lol Well, sure I mean MS could do that with something like Zune 5.0, but I think at the most it'll be basic control when it comes to stuff like photos and documents, I don't expect them to put any sorta photo editing in there, just basic managment so you can move pics off and on the phone. Same with other files/books etc. So I think they'll let the live apps support WP7 as well with some update later this year for them.
