EzeWong
My friend briefly mentioned something about "Capping a cable modem" from his tone it sounded illegal :shifty: and plus he said you could be sued... so umm Im not planning to do it, but anyone know what it is? And out of curiousity, how it works?
Niels
Capping is done by the ISP. Not by the user. If your cable has been 'capped' at say 200 k/s then you cannot download faster than 200 k/s.
I8PP
I think he ment "uncapping", meaning removing the bandwidth limit set by the ISP.
Vlad
Yes, it's illegal and before you ask, yes, it's relatively easy to detect. The term is "uncapping a cable modem" not "capping a cable modem". You "trick" the cable modem into giving you additional speed by sending it a custom made configuration. (It's slightly more complicated than that, but it's little lengthy to explain in full). There used to be (so there probably still are) directions on how to do it on the internet.
