Dazzla Veteran Posted August 7, 2003 Veteran Share Posted August 7, 2003 When I was on a wired network with no airport, I had ports 6881-6889 open for Bittorrent and it speeded up the downloads no end. But since I switched to Airport my download speed is 0.0 but my upload speed is still over 15. I've modified the linksys control panel to open direct the ports to 192.168.1.101 (my airport) instead of 192.168.1.4 (my powerbook) but it doesn't seem to make a difference. My Powerbook has an IP of 10.0.1.2 set by the Airport if that helps. I've also just tried setting the IP of the Airport to 192.168.1.101 and the Mac to 192.168.1.102, I can access the net fine but bittorrent is still the same. Any suggestions? Edit, hmm, opening a wider range of ports for both 101 and 102 has sped it up a bit, we'll see....

Dazzla Veteran Posted August 7, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted August 7, 2003 10.0.1.2 worked fine for the internet when Aiport set that IP for my PowerBook, but I've got it set all manually now. The Airport is 192.168.1.101 and the PowerBook is 192.168.1.102. But that PowerBook addy has come from the Airport, so the Linksys CP rules won't mean jack will they? I've opened the Airport Admin Util but I can't see anything in there.
cq_
why not put the airport infront of the linksys router? so you have : WAN ---- Airport - Linksys - wired componets | Wireless PBook
Dazzla Veteran Posted August 7, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted August 7, 2003 hmm, I never thought of that. I've got a cable modem going into my Router at the moment, but with this I'd have it going into the WAN port of my Airport? Then the LAN port into my router? That would solve all my ports problems wouldn't it because the router wouldn't be involved with my PB at all? I'll have to leave my cable modem off overnight if it's changing devices though, so I'll do it once my bittorrent download is done if it doesn't go insanely slow. cq_
but with this I'd have it going into the WAN port of my Airport? Then the LAN port into my router? exactly... then on the linksys you would just have make sure your IPs don't overlap

Dazzla Veteran Posted August 7, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted August 7, 2003 I could set both the Airport and PB as DCHP with no worries if they were in front of the router couldn't I? And will the Router pick up an IP dynamically from the Airport?
