URL with Keywords

Question

Hi All,

I have a small business where i am trying, like all of us, to getter better ranking in my area for my keywords.

One of the things that is held up as a good way to have a better ranking is if your domain has your keywords in it, for example, if you sell computers then having computerhardware or computerparts in your domain name is a good way to make google believe that your website is relevant to your keywords that you are trying to promote.

Which made me wonder, if you already have a business name, say for example www.champs.com (which is not my domain name), that does not have your keywords in it, would it be worthwhile / cost effective to spend a bit and buy www.champscomputersupplies.com or www.champscomputerrepairaustintexas.com and redirect this back to www.champs.com to inflate your ranking for your keyword / area that your targeting?

Or are there any better ways (outside SEO of your website, backlinks etc)?

Any ideas?

Hi, I run my own domain business. SEO will work better with exact match generic domains. If you deal with computer supplies use the google keyword tool to check for phrases that have high search terms. I'm in the UK an example would be the search term "computer hardware" it gets 4,400 exact searches a month so if you owned computerhardware.something (as i'm in the UK .co.uk/.org.uk is relevant) and it was top of google you have the potential to recieve 50/60% of them searches (maybe more!) so you could be getting a few thousand customers per month extra to your site, hopefully turning into business.

I would get your current site full of relevant unique articles that are keyword rich, also look to purchasing article space on high PR ranking sites with a relevant link with the keyword you are aiming to rank for as the ancor text to boost search engine positions.

Thanks for the response, the problem is i already have a domain name and a registered company which does not have my keywords in the title. If i was to buy a domain name of my company name and stick my keywords at the end of it and redirect it back to my existing website which has all the keywords SEO optimized is that something that would help my rank or would it just boost the domain name i just bought and not www.mycompanyname.com?

By articles, do you mean exactly that, an article on a subject for which my website is relevant, i.e. if it was computer hardware, write articles about the latest Intel / AMD motherboards etc?

And do you have any recommendations for purchasing article space?

Thanks for the advice, its much appreciated.

Hi, If I was you I would use your main company name as the main domain, maybe set up a couple of mini sites with relevant articles (like you said with relevant news about the latest hardware etc). And have links to your company site linked in the articles and have banners linking to your business on them. Search engines love unique content, so get regular articles up about the field you are in and google will reward you for that.

Regarding article space, you can check around sites like webhostingtalk, name pros, affiliates4u for people advertising either text links, or articles for money.
