Free hosting

Question

So i've been googling and found a couple as well as found some on this thread here

While I don't plan to run a business or anything "vital" so to say. I've had bad experiences in the past with free hosts (around 4-5 years ago), they just disappear, no back-up of your info, no nada! So there has to be a reputable free host nowadays. Granted some might probably have ads, I don't mind them, as long as they aren't instrusive, but preferably, none.

Though freehostia here seems alright.

Anyway, my question is, does anyone have any experience with freehostia or perhaps any other ad-free host?

That's the problem with "free"... It's pretty hard to expect a company you're not paying to care about your data :/

Yeah, but surely there's gotta be one at least. Last time around, it was only a wordpress blog.

With web hosting, you generally get what you pay for. Free webhosting is a very difficult business model to sustain, that's why they disappear so often. Your best bet would be to buy hosting, or find a big name that still does free hosting. Lycos used to, but I've no idea if they still do.

Yeah but lycos hosting was ad-galore :/ Meh... I guess freehostia is the only route.

I use 110mb for mine. It seems pretty good, and has been around awhile.

Failing that, try your ISP, a lot of companies give you a small amount of free webspace.

If its nothing illegal PM me and I can host your site for free since you are a neowin member

What kind of service do you offer?

I was looking at something that would support simple scripting (maybe python or something) and a small DB for a future project :/ I was thinking of using Google AppEngine but maybe your option would be better

Plenty of places offer discounted rates. If you can't find any, I can send you a link for a host that offers unlimited BW and Space, free domain name, unlimited Db's, Emails, etc all for $10/year. Its not crap, I've had it for 3 years now and couldn't be happier. The rate is low because it only applies to accounts set up through a referre link from a current customer. Everyone wins in that situation.

I've never had good results with free hosts.
