stncttr908 Veteran Posted August 8, 2003 Veteran Share Posted August 8, 2003 Alright. One of the hardest things to find in my suburban New Jersey town are other metal fans besides my friends. I mean true metal fans, not the ones that go around with System of a Down shirts on with Disturbed coming through their headphones. I'm talking real metal. Opeth, Iced Earth, In Flames, Soilwork, Strapping Young Lad, At The Gates, Darkest Hour, The Haunted, and many more. Let me hear you! What are some of your favorite bands, and what can't you get out of your head at this moment? For me, the one song that I'm spoogin' over at the moment is Opeth - To Rid The Disease Damnation is an incredible album.
Keldyn
I love Metal music but I'm mostly into the old skool stuff like Slayer,Sepultura & Pantera. I'll never tire of them. Opeth is very good though I agree (Y)
stncttr908 Veteran Posted August 8, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted August 8, 2003 Man, I dig the old skool just as much. Old school Metallica is some of the most rockin' **** ever recorded. It's just a shame to see what they've become in the past 10 years however. St. Anger is a culmination of that crapulence that has invaded their songwriting. Some other styles that I prefer are progressive rock and hardcore. Dream Theater is easily my favorite band of all time. Hardcore bands like Poison the Well, Unearth, Remembering Never, Shai Hulud, etc. rock my socks. I also like my dosage of nu metal occasionally. The Deftones are certainly another one of my favorites, but I've drifted away from a lot of that stuff now.
D!ABOL!C
I'm a pretty big metal head, I especially love the funny looks I get from people when I tell them what music I listen to, and it's even funnier when I start naming some bands. I'm currently in my European Metal phase, which I must say has the best metal at the moment. Some of my faves in no particular order, except the first 2: Lacuna Coil (I  Cristina) and Opeth, The Crown, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, In Flames and countless others. But of course I do love some good home grown American bands as well. Soilent Green sticks out the most, I went to see them last weekend. Mainly a bunch of bands from Relapse Records, like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Cephalic Carnage, Nile, Exhumed. And the old school stuff like MetallicA (up until the Black Album), Anthrax, Slayer, PanterA and Death (RIP Chuck)etc. I love pulling up next to someone playing rap garbage and I got some Death Metal or Grindcore going \m/
Keldyn
I used to dig metallica up until a few years ago. Everything up until Load was gold. Now they are nothing but washed up, balding rockers who couldn't make a decent album if their lives depended on it. Fear Factory would have to be my all time favorite band. They just have such a unique sound and their lyrics are awesome. (Y) Shame Burton Bell called it quits tho... :(

Ji@nBing
i've been listening to opeth since morningrise. one of the best bands ever IMO. kinda funny how they are so well known now. when i first started listening to them NO ONE had heard of them. sorry to say but dream theater is just cheese to me :p. other bands like like are faith no more, tomahawk, sepultura, ect... i'm kinda in a lull right now. all i will listen to are mike pattons various projects and opeth. i dunno why but for the past year or so that and opeth are just all that do anything for me. i had high hopes for the new metallica (for some reason), but that was shot down real quick!! it's somehow worse than load/re-load. somehow!! i hadn't though they could possibly get any worse, but there it is

He was the cause for the breakup. I'm really looking forward to them cranking out some new tunes. I own all their albums (Y) :D

RazerBack
I love the old skool metal bands, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax etc. Can't seem to get into the North American bands anymore, I've started listening to bands from Europe now, such as Gammaray, Stratovarius, Heavenly, etc. I think they're labelled as power metal, I find the music alot more melodic there. Keldyn
What's your fave? I have all but Fear is the Mind Killer (remix album, but oh well) Demanufacture and Obsolete are probably my favorites.
stncttr908 Veteran Posted August 8, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted August 8, 2003 Fear Factory is some great stuff. My personal favorite of theirs is Demanufacture. I just wish they wouldn't put out those remix cds though. Shame to see them fold. I heard something about them coming back without Dino, but that wouldn't really be Fear Factory. That's like Axel bringing back Guns N' Roses without any other original members. Stupid. Anyway, I'll admit that some of Dream Theater's stuff is a bit hokey, like Images & Words, but the rest of it is terrific. How could anyone not love A Change Of Seasons? They did a great job with the covers and the title track is simply the best song ever written. It's 23 minutes of pure power and emotion! That and Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory. That is my favorite album of all time. I've heard songs tell a story, but that's nothing compared to this. The Live Scenes DVD also kicks ass. D!ABOL!C
I forgot another important thing. Concert Tickets! Now, minus the festivals or what not and if they play in smaller clubs rather than arenas, the tickets are freakin cheap! I mean, I went to see Opeth and Lacuna Coil in May and only paid $12! Plus I got a piccie with Cristina :woot: I went to see Soilent Green last weekend and paid $10 and I'm probably gonna go see Type O and Lacuna Coil next month and tickets are only $17! All I can say it beats paying $50 or $60 for tickets and only being able to sit in the lawn, plus at the smaller clubs you can actually meet the bands
Keldyn
:o? aint dino the fat guy? what was up his ass... Probably a burrito...: A long story short. He wanted to be "in" everything. Dino was always exerting his control over the way Fear Factory operated and progressed. The band, especially Burton, got sick of it and said adios! Excellent show indeed. She is certainly a metal hottie! How I could I forget to mention Lacuna Coil with my favorite bands tsk tsk... Opeth came out and did an encore of Demon of the Fall. That was excellent. Great set! Too bad I missed the acoustic show in NYC and Philly a few weeks ago.

Too bad I missed the acoustic show in NYC and Philly a few weeks ago. The place I went to seem them at had a pretty small stage with a side area with only curtains, so Akerfeldt was like, well we could go off the stage and come back to do the encore, but you'll still see us, so we'll just stay up here. That's probably my favorite song, but it's hard to pick just one. Just like fave albums, i'm torn between Still Life and My Arms Your Hearse, but somehow, the rest of the albums get brought in... lol
