Nintendo Stops Gamecube production

Found this on the bbc's website - Its not looking good for Nintendo....

The Japanese company Nintendo has temporarily halted production of its GameCube consoles until the autumn.

The struggling games maker says it needs to clear its warehouses of unsold machines before it makes any more of them.

Nintendo's president, Satoru Iwata, has also said he wants to move away from increasingly sophisticated and time consuming games, which dominate the games industry at the moment.

The games market shrunk dramatically last year, Mr Iwata said, because players were getting frustrated with the ever more sophisticated games.

Some games can take months to finish and the result is players are buying fewer of them.

"This trend is clear to everyone, and the trend continues this year," Mr Iwata said.

So in a bid to recapture sales, Nintendo has said it will move back toproducts that anyone can play and enjoy.

Nintendo now hopes to drive sales this year with new games, including a version of the 1980s favourite Donkey Kong, and has promised a product for next spring "that will deliver fresh surprises" and be fun even for novices.

The only way they coudl lose it is to stop making the games. And even though it was posted already it should have been moved here... But although it would never happen i would love for nintendo to make gaems for like microsoft or sony... or at least get a bit more mainstream for the console design. Like the dvd player cd harddrive online model. THey need to take more risks. Even though htey make the best games in my opinion its hard to keep the fans coming when the only good exclusive coems every 5 or so months.

I think what they are meaning in change of games is away from epic level novel sized manual games. Think about it, which game has more replay value? Super Mario or Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance? I can still play Super Mario and have a good time where in MKDA, once I've beaten it, I'm bored. And the combos are friggin' ridiculous...

One bad thing about the GC is it lives off the success of a game until its sucked dry. Unlike games for the PS2 and Xbox, there is a wide variety of anticipated games in the market, not just one main stream game...

GC tends to release one good game every few months or so and then things go quiet.

I cant wait for mario kart though, that game is gonna rock!! :D
