No. In most situations WiFi is used, however I believe some apps are hardcoded to use 3g only. Not to mention if there is a 3g signal voice calls go over that too. Not to mention if there is a 3g signal voice calls go over that too. i thought voice calls only needed a basic GSM signal to work? using 3g takes alot more battery than mantaining a link to the cellular network, i think it makes the radio transmit at a different frequency and stuff Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

So, if your phone is getting a 3G signal your voice calls are most like going over 3G. If you're only getting a GPRS / EDGE signal then its going over 2G.
