0 ElGato Share Posted January 4, 2002 I hope they don't put the prices up too much for Cable, as I could never go back to modem speeds.
0 +primortal Subscriber² Share Posted January 4, 2002 I love cable... I had IDSL (144kbs) and thought that was sweet. Changed over to cable half the price of DSL and 5x faster than what I had....
0 Miran Share Posted January 4, 2002 Cable is good if you like your connection speed to slow down to 28K in the afternoon. Or if you like to have your bandwidth cut in half everytime someone on your street gets cable too. xDSL is way better, as long as your ISP has lots of routers. I get 2.5 megs/sec downloads speeds (I live 2 blocks from the router). Teehee.
0 xWeston Share Posted January 4, 2002 I get 1.5Mbps/128Kpbs DSL with a static IP Address for $39 a month.
0 Watermoss Share Posted January 4, 2002 I want Broadband - but probably will have to move house to ever get it :( I live in North Wales on a high rock - we dont even get mains gas! Colin
0 vodkacow Share Posted January 4, 2002 i like cable......most of my friends bitch n' bitch n' bitch on how bad it is.......but dat's cuz they live on streets where EVERYONE has it......therby reducing their speeds 2 worse dan 56k during evenings...... but i dun have dat problem :) u kno y??........cuz i live on a street full of old n' retired ppl!!....... I get all of my bandwidth :) (i'm sorry.......i jus like 2 gloat alot!!) my friend who lives in a even ghettoer (if dat's a word) neighbourhood has even better ul/dl speeds!!......... :) cable is good only if u live in a "ghetto" neighbourhood.....otherwise u get screwed over :) (sucka)
0 Tux Share Posted January 4, 2002 heh.. i have 56k, my parents are too cheap to get broadband.. they dont see the benefits all they think it is - is just a free phone line.

0 phantomAI Share Posted January 4, 2002 I want DSL, but Verizon seems to be charging $49.99. Cable isn't supported in my neighborhood yet.
0 s0ldats Share Posted January 5, 2002 how do all these people get dsl for so cheap?!?! and so fast/!?! i have verizon dsl in california, and they charge 49.99 for 768/128 and i live like literally 30 steps away from the CO. @Knoxca: who's your provider? verizon doesn't seem to care about if you live close or not. if they did i'd have 8 megabits per second both ways
0 mtgriffith Share Posted January 5, 2002 I have cable for $35 a month. It seems like election day. I sure have voted in a lot of polls this evening.
0 Miran Share Posted January 5, 2002 I live in Canada. Telus is the provider, although they are a Canada only company. :p
0 shockz Share Posted January 5, 2002 56k for now - but I am hoping that they will make our area Broadband ready soon. They did work on our phone lines - but I think that was because when you pick the phone up it sounds like it is kissing something or farting in the recevier. N-E ways like I said I hope I get it soon.
0 X Share Posted January 5, 2002 Cable almost always has better speeds, up and down than dsl does. Cable is always on, DSL might not always work if you have a company like verizon (Even the setup can be a big problem). Sat isnt good for much. Its not good at all for games. 56k is for people who hardly ever go on or download large files. Yesterday I used about 1 GB of bandwidth downloading :) glad they dont limit me on downloads. DSL is only better than cable if you live close to the office or pay for the best/top service they offer.

0 Danik XP Share Posted January 5, 2002 Used to have @HOME. Got Switched to AT&T. Spent $10,000 & created my own cable server. I now host all of my friends for $15/month. 6.2 MB Downstream 3.4 Mb Upstream 24/7 365/Y No Bandwidth Limit 1 Disadvantage: No email address. Have to use ATTBI.COM addy. Oh well, pretty slick though. :D :D
0 Intelligen Share Posted January 5, 2002 Yes, i have ****ty direcPEEc :( But hey, it beats 56k download speeds as long as you don't download too much and fap yourself. Like ppl say, once you have broadband you can't go back.
0 mtgriffith Share Posted January 5, 2002 Holy crap, I thought DSL was dominating these days, guess I was wrong! Hehe, learn everything everyday! Adds for DSL are dominating on TV and radio but only a few people are close enough to the switch to get it. I think it is irresponsible to have adds if they cannot deliver the product to more than a few people.
