[XS]
i have bought a wireless network router, with nics for my computers. but it seems that the wireless network doesnt work properly upstairs [limited range?]. i can pick up the network [although poor connection] on one of my comps, but when i put any stress upon the network, i.e. copying files across network, it just cuts out, lose the signal to network. my set up wireless router located next to computer downstairs, i then have two computers upstairs which they can pick up the network, only just. i was wondering is there anything like higher gain antennas or something to make the network stronger? thanks [XS] /EDIT - might want to change title, it seemed to fit the subject at the time, but doesnt seem right upon a second look. theprotege
try the latest drivers for your network cards...if that doesn't help, if you have the option to move the router around do so, generally you want to place it in a high, centralized point to all your workstations, not on the opposite side of the house...and no need to drill it into the ceiling either (actually had someone do that once and fell...) anyway, if none of that helps, try upgrading your routers firmware...but be advised, that should be your last option, generally the upgrade works without a hitch, but occasionally, it won't, and niether will your router afterwards

Steven
Place the WAP in the middle of the home/apt/condo ;) whatever. It works best there, if you can't put it as close as you can get it.
