trikster
I have an Xbox and Xbox Live, which allows you to play games online. I don't have a network cable in the main den, where my best TV is, nor do I have a wireless bridge for my Xbox. Therefore, I can't play it online in the den. I do, however, have a laptop with a wireless connection. This got me to thinking...is there a way I can take the the wireless laptop connection and send it out through ethernet into the Xbox? If I can, which software would I need, and more importantly, how would I do it?
Roger H. Veteran Posted August 11, 2003 Veteran Share Posted August 11, 2003 ok, so basically you wanna use your laptop as the gateway or wha? If you can get a wireless signal from your Laptop in the den then all you have to do is get a wireless bridge: Designed for consoles connect a cable to the bridge to your Xbox port and one to the bridge, the bridge will connect to your router and voila! You now have Xbox live. NOTE Because of latency in wireless connections you might not enjoy games as you would like.. there is a 1-2 second delay sometimes (depending on the hardware - haven't had this myself) so you might not be able to play, might not like to play or might not be able to get online. trikster
I know I can get a wireless bridge, but I don't want to spend the money for a bridge. I want to basically use my laptop as a bridge and not have to buy a seperate bridge myself.
Roger H. Veteran Posted August 11, 2003 Veteran Share Posted August 11, 2003 well then yeah, you can... your laptop has a built in or add in LAN card so you can share the Wi-Fi and the laptop will pass the info on. SO right click the wi-fi connection and go to advanced tab in properties and just share it and you should be good to go. I guess bridging does the samething so yeah.... you can do that. trashpickinman
I did something similar, I had a wireless connection to my desktop and wanted to connect another desktop over ethernet. I used XP to build a bridge between them so the other computer could browse the internet. basicly I just selected the two adapters i wanted to share and right clicked on one of them and clicked Bridge Connections. see these two sites for more detailed information https://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/..._bridge_add.asp http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/windo...ridge-setup.asp edit: just added this site http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertz...d/02april22.asp
tomasarson
if you're using xp. in network connections you can select both networks. lan and wireless. right click and bridge them. might work on some older windows too?
