Digital utio transportation & conversion

Recommended Posts

I read a lot on audiio forums about audio quality, and how the use of the right connecitons, cables etc must be used to maintain the quality etc.. I dont want to start another speaker wire debate, but when people start to talk about digital, I cant help but think, how can using a different cable, connector improve the quality? After all, in its basic form, digital, or rather, binary, is just a load of 0's and 1's, isnt it?

I can sort of see the argument where analogue is concerned (but dont get me wrong, I still dont think ?100 cable is going to sound any better than the ?10 stuff, maybe to sensitive specialised sound measuring euqipment, but not your ears!), but not where digital is concerned...

Ive recently seen on some discussions people arguing how one USB port on their PC, sounds better than the other, if they have a dac connected to it... and i just can help but think, what a load of idiots... although I do think they must just be winding people up, but seriously, some people do think these sorts of things.. or am I missing out on a whole world of beeter sounding audio????

Monster cables is a good example, expensive but not needed to be

Basically a good average price for a average length cable is a good measure. Anything over say 5 metres, is wiser to go for the more expensive. Anything less you can get away with a cheaper sort.

Always look for a good insulating cable as well, so a good thickness is usually is better, just like PSU on a comp, too light and you know its gonna be crap.

Thanks.. but I wast really after comments about cabling.. it was more the discusisons I had read over peaople saying things like use this USB port, it sounds better than that one.. Ive even read thngs like, my audio sounds better now I have 8gb ram, rather than 4.. wtf???... these are posts that have been read talking about a Mac Mini... Posts like the one's you have read or what I consider from highly self righteous individuals who quite possible want assurances that what they bought was worth it.

Not that I'm a humble man myself, however the number one thing to consider in audio outside of a computer is in assuring that a solid and direct constant connection occurs from the outlet which powers your electronics to the cables that send the digital signal to your equipment all the way to the ultimate destination: your speakers.
