Gretzky399
I am trying to setup a network with 2 D-Link DI-614+ to share a cable modem. The network consists of 2 computers connected a hub which goes into 1 of the ports in the router. The upstairs of this big house has another DI-614+ which I want to setup as an access point. So I ran a cable from the back of the router downstarirs to the back of the D-Link upsatairs. I tried putting the cable into the wan port and one of the pc ports but I could not get a internet connection for the wireless to work. How would I setup the wireless router upstairs to recieve an internet connection from the router downstairs? What ports do the wires need to go in? Thanks in advance

John Veteran Posted September 2, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 2, 2003 leave DHCP off, then try plugging the upstairs router into one of the LAN ports on the downstairs router. and no, you don't need a crossover cable. that's only for computer -> computer. Frank
Is there any reason why you are connecting two 614+ together in the same house? Why not sell one 614+ on eBay, and buy a D-Link access point....that would be a lot easier. You will need to plug in a cable from the LAN port of the first 614+ into the WAN port of the 614+ Access Point upstairs. Then you need to turn off the firewall capabilities (so your computers downstairs and upstairs can talk) of the 614+ that you have upstairs. You want to make sure you assign an IP to the WAN address, or set it to the DHCP option. You also want to disable the DHCP server on the router. Let me know if it works! --Frank
Steven
I am trying to setup a network with 2 D-Link DI-614+ to share a cable modem. The network consists of 2 computers connected a hub which goes into 1 of the ports in the router. Just to be sure, did you plug the hub into the UPLINK Port of the Switch on your Router? Because if you did not, I'm sure that could be a reason why you're having trouble.
