DoNuTjC
Well I don't know if this will work but what I've done to install XP is to boot with a winME startup disk and do a fdisk and format then boot with the xp disk and install... Make sure you only have the keyboard and mouse hooked up and anything else (like your dsl or cable modem (if you have it) or any usb stuff are not hooked up) see if that works... I don't have the same motherboard but I do have the same video card... If that doesn't work then I don't know what to tell ya... Good luck... RenGx
Judging on yer specs, you got a new pc :p, just reboot, set your bios 2 default settings, aDjust Bios again so it so it boots from CD, inserT winblows CD and follow on screen prompts, wipe all yer previous crap, partions etc, & enjoy XP ** A lot of times upgrading a previous os just wont work
DjmUK
It has been known that Athlon and WinXP have problems (usually the 1.4GHz), the main solution is to do this: - Decrease your FSB (Front Side Bus) to 100MHz (or 200MHz DDR), by the jumpers on your motherboard and/or BIOS settings. - After successfull installation. - Increase your FSB (Front Side Bus) to 133MHz (or 266MHz DDR), by the jumpers on your motherboard and/or BIOS settings. Hope this helps.
Stingray
See that the motherboard?s BIOS virus protection is turned off.
johnnIE
If all else fails I can tell yer that XP is damned sensitive to 'faulty' memory modules that could work fine with other OS. If u can, try swoppin out the memory for a known good working strip. I had a similar problem and tried everything, even a new MB, then was gutted to find it was a dimm. I've heard of others having similar experiences, so hope this helps.
adam
i have tryed each one of them, but none of them have worked, i am going to change my mobo too see if it will work
killuminati
Geforce MX card conflict very often with the windows xp installation. Try the following things: 1. Bios update for your mobo. 2. Rip out all unnesicary hardware, life soundcard, network card, modem. Then try again to intstall, if it works then, just pull everything back in and you should still be able to boot. 3. If step 2 didn't work try to replace the videocard with a old videocard. Then try to install again. After the installation plug geforce 2 MX back in and it should still boot into windows. Goodluck! Spectech? Sometimes memory modules are damaged, or just not compatible with your Mainboard. Try changing your memory modules. Maybe you are using modules with a different bus speed, or maybe one of the modules is damaged. I've had the same problem with 128 MB spectech (?) modules. madscientist
Sounds to me like your processor is runnung too hot:O Have you put the chip fan on the right way round? It is possible to strap it on 2 ways, with one way only 70% of the processor is in contact with the fan:dead: I made this mistake with my 1.4Athlon, and it would reboot partway through installation. Turning the fan around 180 degrees sorted the prob:ditsy: FYI the CPU temp was going at 70deg, now it runs at a reasonably cool 45deg. :rambo:
adam
the temp of my processor is 50 degrees celcius , btw, my ram is Hyandai ram, i wonder, i should try killumatis idea.
ElGato
From what you described origionally it seems to be failing on the Video detection so I would try just changing yer vid card while you complete the install, then put back the GeForce. adam
2 fix it, with this board u must press f6 when u are asked 2 install a scsi or raid driver, which i hate coz i cant, its not working 4 me! installation instructions for abit boards can be found @ the abit site. WHY CANT I PRESS F6?
mtgriffith
When you first get the blue setup screen it prompts you to press F6 to load alternate SCSI/IDE drivers. Start pressing F6 like crazy from the time you see the prompt for it until the time the message goes away. Setup will go as usual loading every driver known to microsoft until it loads the SCSI driver. Then it will prompt you to use your driver disk. If you can't press any keys at all are you sure that you didn't switch the keyboard and mouse when you plugged them in? I saw a comment earlier in the post that there is a problem with the Athlon 1.4. I have an Athlon 1.4. Mine works great. I had a bad stick of RAM. That was nasty (3 BSODs a day). Since replacing the RAM my system has worked perfectly.
Roger H. Veteran Posted January 6, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 6, 2002 if your problem hasn't been fixed yet then you need to get the latest BIOS. If you don't have BIOS 3R or later then it wont work. I had that board and had that same problem untill i updated my BIOS and everything worked fine. I sold that board a while back so i haven't been keeping current with the latest fixes and/or problems so if that doesn't fix it then i don't know what to tell ya. I got my Shuttle AK-31A (Ver. 3.1) and loving it to death!
